About
From the beautiful Waimea Plains come the inspired and innovative wines of the South Island's oldest family winery, Seifried Estate. Harvested from Estate grown, 'Sustainably Accredited' vineyards scattered throughout the Nelson region, this is a winery with a focus and passion for beautifully crafted wines. From humble beginnings in the Moutere Valley near Nelson in 1973, Seifried Estate has grown to become synonymous with sustainability, quality, innovation and family values. The family business has grown and now farms over 250 hectares of vines, with their wines being sold in 22 countries, including having established themselves as a familiar and favoured brand in New Zealand. A leading producer of Nelson Sauvignon Blanc, Seifried has also gained a reputation for interesting and unusual varieties, including Grüner Veltliner, Würzer and Zweigelt - paying homage to Hermann's Austrian heritage. In September 2014, Hermann and Agnes were acknowledged for their tremendous contribution to New Zealand wine and inducted as Fellows of New Zealand Winegrowers. They made history as the first husband and wife team to be recognised and it was also the first time a woman has been honoured. The passion has been passed on with all three of the Seifried "children" now home and working in the company. Each brings experience and knowledge gained in various roles around the world. The grandchildren have also become regulars at the winery, eager to help and get their hands (and feet!) dirty, and follow in "Opa and Nana's" footsteps. A family business, sharing their wines with the world. And home to the fabulous Sweet Agnes Riesling - New Zealand's most awarded dessert wine.

Best platter we have ever had. Good food and great value. Sitting outside tasting wine and nibbling on the great food was a perfect way to spend the afternoon

Stopped in here for a quick wine tasting. They are very generous with how many wines they let you try for only $7. Friendly, knowledgeable staff in a sophisticated setting. Worth a stop.

We had a large table booked on 27 December for adults and children! We were seated outside but told if the weather turned we could move inside! Thankfully it didn’t! The Rose wine was delicious as was the food! I had the chicken salad and it was yummy!! The kids playground is soo good the children can play while we waited for our meals ! I would recommend this for families with children

This is a review of a wine and not the vineyard which we have visited numerous times previously.

The wine reviewed is 2018 Gewurtztraminer a favoured wine of mine in the past often buying multiple bottles. Regrettably the 2018 wine reminds me of a poor vinegar and should have considered that at $15 a bottle that was a real possibility. Personally believe this will do the vineyard no good and would suggest selling under another name rather than Seifried

Hi Gordon Thank you for your very valued feedback. We work hard to make wines that we are proud to share - and put our name on - so it's disappointing when this hasn't been the case. It's been some time since we've sold the Seifried Gewürztraminer 2018 (our current vintage is 2020), so it would be useful to know more. Please email me so we can investigate further - anna@seifried.co.nz Where and approximately how long ago you purchased the bottle in question? If you still have the bottle it would be useful to get the batch number (it'll look something like Lxxxx, followed by a time stamp) so we can review our QC records from day of bottling. Did you notice any denting or damage to the cap? (your description of 'poor vinegar' sounds like you've got a bottle undergoing oxidation - which is often a result of air getting in through a damaged cap?) Thanks Gordon. We look forward to hearing more, so we can properly address your review. With thanks, Anna Seifried

I found a 2016 bottle of Aotea Sauvignon Blanc in my wine cellar and it had been placed with the chardonnays for long term storage. Considering the age, I thought it would be best to consume without delay. What a pleasure. I really wish that I had more of this vintage. I will have to try the current range and see if I can keep my hands off it until it has time to mature to it's best. I must have purchased the 2016 at least 3 years ago when I visited the cellar door.

We popped in here as we had tried a bottle of their wine in London, and were passing close by.
Easily accessible.
Good selection of wines in the tasting.
Host was friendly and knowledgeable.
Wine is reasonably priced to buy.
At the moment the restaurant is closed. The knock on impact of this is that the lack of licence prohibits the ability, having tasted the wines, to buy a glass and sit and savour in the very nice outside seating area.

Visited late afternoon. It was rather busy, however the lady running the tasting did a stirling job to keep things moving along. She was very friendly and helpfully explained about the wines. We had tastings of 5 different wines, including their award winning desert wine. Over all this was a very good wine tasting occasion.

A great vineyard and with friendly staff. We went there outside the main season and were the only customers. I think we tasted about 6 wines, which was free. Their Sauvignon Blanc is now my preferred one over the Marlborough ones.
Also their award winning desert wine is amazing. I’m not usually a fan of sweet wines, but I’d happily have that one.
