About
From the beautiful Waimea Plains come the inspired and innovative wines of the South Island's oldest family winery, Seifried Estate. Harvested from Estate grown, 'Sustainably Accredited' vineyards scattered throughout the Nelson region, this is a winery with a focus and passion for beautifully crafted wines. From humble beginnings in the Moutere Valley near Nelson in 1973, Seifried Estate has grown to become synonymous with sustainability, quality, innovation and family values. The family business has grown and now farms over 250 hectares of vines, with their wines being sold in 22 countries, including having established themselves as a familiar and favoured brand in New Zealand. A leading producer of Nelson Sauvignon Blanc, Seifried has also gained a reputation for interesting and unusual varieties, including Grüner Veltliner, Würzer and Zweigelt - paying homage to Hermann's Austrian heritage. In September 2014, Hermann and Agnes were acknowledged for their tremendous contribution to New Zealand wine and inducted as Fellows of New Zealand Winegrowers. They made history as the first husband and wife team to be recognised and it was also the first time a woman has been honoured. The passion has been passed on with all three of the Seifried "children" now home and working in the company. Each brings experience and knowledge gained in various roles around the world. The grandchildren have also become regulars at the winery, eager to help and get their hands (and feet!) dirty, and follow in "Opa and Nana's" footsteps. A family business, sharing their wines with the world. And home to the fabulous Sweet Agnes Riesling - New Zealand's most awarded dessert wine.

We had a short wine tasting of fifteen minutes where we tasted three wines. The sommelière was friendly and briefly told something about the wine. The last wine was a delicious Riesling dessert wine. Here we bought a bottle for NZD 29. The wine tasting was inclusive.
In the restaurant we ate bread with homemade dips. Tastes fine.
The grape bushes were still small, of course. In summer, the orchards will look more spectacular.

Cannot rate highly enough. We booked our Notable Tour group of 40 into the Harvest Kitchen alongside the Seifried Cellar door, and were given a fun and informative tasting session by Jacqui before dinner. Can't 'do' Nelson without a wine--tasting and can't imagine a more elegant & friendly environment than Seifried's to have it.

Very nice tasting room with a very informative staff member. A very premium winery with lots of history and of course lots of different wine varieties some very well known and others not so. Never tried Wurzer a German varietal. The highlight has to be a tasting of the sweet Agnes Riesling a late harvest production which was outstanding. Well done to all at the winery.

Service was good. Food was also pretty good ( not great)
Ambience was terrible. The restaurant hasn’t had a lick of paint in what appears to be 30 years. Furniture was tired and dirty. Ceiling looks like it’s about to fall in. Way below the expected standard for a vineyard lunch in 2023.

Thank you for your very honest review. The good news is the dining room has now been spruced up with a lovely new paint - which was the week after your visit (the open fire had left some smoke stain on the ceiling after the cold winter) - and is looking lovely and fresh and again. We're into our summer menu, and have some brilliant new staff all ready to give you a lovely Harvest Kitchen experience. We look forward to welcoming you back anytime. Regards Anna Seifried

We called in here on a Hop on Hop off Bus Tour. Tayla the beautiful Hostess was a delight for the next hour or so. She clearly loves her job, and has a passion for the Wine Industry. It didnt faze her when numerous other groups arrived, she filled us all with a warmth of knowledge, and along with her right hand Man 'Ash' we had a great Experience and look forward to returning. Thank you.

Five different wines in the tasting, and no charge. The pouring was generous compared to other vineyard tastings, so you had more time to decide if you liked the taste. The only negative would be that you don't get to choose which wines you'd like to try which is a shame, but as they're not charging you then fair enough! Fab local family owned vineyard with really lovely, friendly staff.

Went in for a wine and few nibbles. Food took over an hour for fries and garlic bread. Said they will give us a discount for the late food and made us pay full price. Average. Also $2 for the smallest sauce I’ve seen in my life

We met friends for lunch last Saturday and we weren't sure what to expect. We'd had varied reviews from friends who have eaten here over the past 3 months. We were pleasantly surprised as, apart from the somewhat dated decor, it was wonderful. There were plenty of choices even for vegetarians like me. The 4 of us all chose something different, and all the meals were delicious. The service was quick and friendly. We were lucky enough to be seated by the log fire which we really enjoyed as it was a grey day. We spotted a lovely play area outside, so we'll be back when the little grandchildren all come up from Dunedin over summer. Many thanks for a lovely dining experience.

We popped in here as we had tried a bottle of their wine in London, and were passing close by.
Easily accessible.
Good selection of wines in the tasting.
Host was friendly and knowledgeable.
Wine is reasonably priced to buy.
At the moment the restaurant is closed. The knock on impact of this is that the lack of licence prohibits the ability, having tasted the wines, to buy a glass and sit and savour in the very nice outside seating area.

Visited late afternoon. It was rather busy, however the lady running the tasting did a stirling job to keep things moving along. She was very friendly and helpfully explained about the wines. We had tastings of 5 different wines, including their award winning desert wine. Over all this was a very good wine tasting occasion.
