Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a big old oak tree in a pretty little park. It's old. Really old. The locals are quite proud of it. Visiting isn't a transcendental experience. Definitely a must-see in Thomasville for more than 150 years. It's mentioned in guidebooks from the 1800s as a must-see. But today's modern travelers might be a bit jaded to find it very thrilling. Don't expect your kids to look up from their devices long enough to do more than say, "Hmm."

OMG! The width of the branches and circumference of the trunk! It’s just beautiful. Definitely worth a drive to see and a photo. Wondering how big it is? I set my iPhone on the sign across the street and couldn’t get to the trunk in 10 seconds. And, couldn’t get the entire tree in the photo. If you look at my photo, there’s another 50 feet of the tree to the right that we couldn’t get in. Beautiful!

If you take a leisurely walk from downtown, it’s just a few blocks. It’s a huge old, oak tree. Interesting to see how over the years, the city has had to prop up some of the large branches. If you go on a warm evening, wear bug spray. The gnats were crazy!

A must see. Free to the public. This historic marvel has been meticulously preserved! Enjoy this 300+ year old Oak tree from all angles. The little park offers seating and a photo opportunity complete with directions. Plaque cards given the stats on the tree and it’s one block off of Broad St.

Its a tree, an old one. I have seen many old trees all over the nation, and this is one of them (some older and a bunch younger) .The oak occupys a corner lot and it is the only thing besides houses around it. I know exciting! BUT wait there is nothing around it, no real park (a patch of grass), not even a proper place to view of sit under its canopy and ogle its size. SO, if your in Thomasville drive by the tree and wave high as you drive home, just don't drive away from downtown (north?) like 3 blocks, the neighborhood can be dangerous in that direction, even during the day.

Sure it's just a tree, but the Big Oak is a Thomasville landmark!! Be sure to get out of your car and stand next to it. Behind the sign is a pamphlet that will tell you how to have your picture made by the camera across the street. It will then be uploaded within a few minutes on-line! Just a fun little thing to do. Small town attractions like this are just part of what makes traveling America great!!! Smile!

Certainly worth a stop on a windshield tour! Easy access and parking and good photo stop. Historic tree has been around longer than our constitution.

The oak itself, as a natural landmark, is impressive, but I've heard Black residents of Thomasville see it as a place where their ancestors were unfairly persecuted (read: hanged). I can't enjoy it for that reason.

If you're passing through or visiting Thomasville, take a few minutes to see the BIG Live Oak Tree at the corner of E. Monroe and Crawford Streets. The tree is 300+ years old and covers almost the entire block. You can stand behind the white sign, dial 229 236 0053 on your cell phone, look at the camera on the telephone pole on the street corner, and follow the instructions you hear on your phone. Later, you can see your picture on line at bigoak.rose.net. If you have time, stroll down Dawson Street, one street over, and walk away from downtown to see some beautiful architecture on the old homes in the area.
