Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Built by Charles Willard Lapham born under the sun sign of Cancer in 1852, a man who the docent described as having odd tastes and an interest in mysticism, requested his 1885 mansion be built at an angle on its plot and without 90 degree angles inside.
The result is one of the least becoming late 19th century homes that I have toured. I immediately detected some bad energies when I entered the structure. Then, the docent told of tragedies that affected three different families who owned the property and how Lapham nearly died in a fire and his estranged wife did die from a house fire.
The house has unusual features (a double flued chimney and a 3rd floor pool room into which every equinox the sun casts a pattern on its floor). There is too much mojo in the place for me to enjoy any aspect of it.
Thomasville is a charming town filled with great 19th century properties. Is too bad that this quirky old mansion is the one the public is allowed to tour. Tix are $10 for adults.

C.W. Lapham built this beautiful mansion in 1885. Like many people of the era he believed that architecture mimicking the organic lines and curves of nature made healthier living environments - so this home was designed without a single right angle in its floorplan. A retail shoe mogul who survived the Chicago Fire, Lapham likewise insisted that every room on the ground floor feature a door to the outside and those above a balcony egress. Our tour guide described the layout of the house and its rooms as "quirky", which is most certainly an understatement. Nonetheless, this marvelously preserved example of unique Victorian Feng Shui is a real treat for connoisseurs of the Gilded Age. Tour guides are friendly and knowledgable, the price negligible and the experience memorable.

Although this great home was closed for a time being, it is now back open to show. It is very unique and loved to walk the tour and hear the stories.

We came to the Lapham-Patterson House after official closing time and had already lost all hope to be able to see this absolutely must-see mansion - but by coincidence tour-guide Joshua drove by and saw us standing by the entrance, frantically ringing the door-bell. He stopped, opened the house only for us and gave us an unbelievably memorable tour. The house is indeed amazing, but you need someone as knowledgeable and enthusiastic as Joshua to explain it to you. He really knows everything that is there to know about the house which is amazing, quirkly, esoteric and truly impressive.

We visited the Lapham-Patterson House today and had a fabulous time! What a wonderful house! The house was absolutely beautiful and our tour guide Josh was so knowledgeable! I think Josh was one of the highlights of our tour!( He also gave us advice on a great restaurant for dinner!) We arrived at the house as Josh was doing his last tour. instead of sending us away, he graciously invited us in and let us join the tour. After the tour was over, he took us back through the house to show us what areas we had missed prior to joining the tour. He never rushed us and offered to answer any questions we might have had. We had such a pleasant experience that we will be back again soon!

I have wanted to see this house since I saw it pictures in a book nearly forty years ago. I was surprised to see that it's now a state park, so I talked my husband into taking a detour on our way to FL just to see it. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the house and local history as well. While the tour was very informal, we learned a lot about the three families that lived there, including the rather OCD builder, and the truly ironic family tragedy. Just a fascinating house and well worth a visit.

This historic home, now a museum, is unique and quirky. Built by a survivor of the great Chicago fire, every room in the house has a door leading to the outside. The house is also known for the owner's specifications that it contain no right angles, which make it architecturally very interesting. The interior woodwork is gorgeous. Special events are held throughout the year, like the open house during Thomasville's annual Victorian Christmas celebration. We have also attended celebrations in the large back yard, complete with outdoor marquis and live music. A lovely setting for special events. The guides for the house tours are very knowledgeable, and provided some fascinating information about the house. Located on Dawson street in the heart of historic downtown Thomasville, it is surrounded by many other beautiful homes. Well worth a visit.

A friend and I were in Thomasville this past week end. It's a very beautiful town with many beautiful homes and fine restraunts. The walking food tour was not only "tasty" but also very imformative. That's how we learned that the Lapham-Patterson House is no longer open for tours. We drove past...what a gem! So insead, we toured Pebble Hill Plantation. Dont Miss it!

Hi! Thank you for your review. The Lapham-Patterson House is and has been open for tours since we re-opened it in 2010. I'm sorry you were told such incorrect information. If you find yourself in Thomasville again on a Friday or Saturday, please stop by for a tour.

The Lapham-Patterson House is park of GA's state park system. The guides are knowledgeable and patiently answer all questions. The tour of the house is the best part though. Roaming around such a strange place after hearing the story of it makes it feel sort of surreal.
It's a nice bit of Thomasville history and well worth a traveler's time.

If you call the # on the web site they will arrange a tour for you (even if the site says they don't do tours on a specific day they are extremely accommodating and will do their best to make you happy).
Good Luck and enjoy this beautiful house.
