About
This museum's mission is to acquire, preserve, display, and promote collections of a historical nature that will be of educational value to the preservation of African American history as it relates to the struggles and accomplishments of Black Police Officers in Over town, as they served during the pre-Civil Rights era of the 1940's, 50's, and 60's. It is the only museum of its kind in the nation, and home of the Ball & Chain Weddings.

NIce small Museum
May 2021
Very nicely done small museum with good articles, photos and artifacts, telling the history of this important place. Had a good tour, but do wish there was more of an emphasis on narrating the historical stories, particularly from the 1920's to 1950's, telling the story of segregation in Miami and how the black policeman had function with so little. Would definitely recommend a visit for a full picture of Overtown.

This was an excellent experience! From the building to the artifacts, but most importantly the narrator. He was a retired police officer who served & had intimate details that you could only get from experience. Don't miss out!

Delightful Staff and Enriching Stories

Seeing that I'm African American, and lover of our history. It was refreshing to hear the stories of the first 5 and those after them who lead the way to what we know of today as a mixed Miami PD.
