The Chef began his formal apprenticeship at L'Ousteau de Baumaniere in Provence, one of the world's best restaurants with a 3-star Michelin rating. In 1976 he opened The Left Bank Restaurant which has always been selected by "Gourmet Magazine", "Bon Appetit", "Conde Nast" & "Travel & Leisure" as one of the best restaurants in America for 22 years. He hosted several cooking Series on PBS and wrote three best-selling cookbooks. The Chef can also be seen frequently as guest Chef on the "TODAY SHOW" where he has appeared 22 times. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I love this place. There is no better food anywhere. And Jean Pierre’s instructions and knowledge is superior!

Chef Jean Pierre does not disappoint! The entertainment and the food is excellent. Price is right as being as bringing your own wine saves a bunch. Only caution is the event starts at 7:30 but you actually eat about 9:30. Next time I will be sure to eat a little something before I go!

I don't write a lot of reviews because I save them for very special places... and Chef Jean Pierre is most definitely one of these. Dinner here is a combination of eating fantastic food, learning from a remarkable chef and enjoying the entire experience with a dash of humor, the right amount of spice and your own bottle(s) of wine (and no corkage charge). My wife and I have recently had two dinners here... Beef Wellington (so that's how they make it!) which was to die for... and Baked Snapper Provencal (now I know not only where to buy fish but also how to cook it). All meals include an appetizer (last night was Roasted Portobello Mushroom stuffed with Brie and Mascarpone Cheese with Arugula Salad with a vinaigrette dressing), the entree of the night (go to the calendar on the website and chose your right combination of the night and the entree), and then dessert (White Chocolate and Orange Creme Brulee last night... aaahhh!!). Entertaining, fun, delicious, and by bringing your own wine, surprisingly inexpensive for a Five Star gourmet meal. Make sure you also check out Aisle Three in the adjoining store or now just order top-of-the-line kitchen utensils online at ChefJP.com. Hopefully I'll always be able to make a reservation here because it appears to be full every night.

My fiancé and I attended a "cooking class" at Jean Pierre's school in order to spend some time together while doing something different. Instead, we ended up watching an angled mirror for two and a half hours. I think 70$ a person and an hour and half wait to even taste the first dish is a little steep. For that money we could have gone to a nice restaurant and have had a better time.
I guess I was misled by the fact that the website offers "cooking demonstrations", so I assumed that "cooking classes" must mean "hands on."
The chef is very knowledgeable however and very pleasant and entertaining. So if you are the type of person that learns by watching and not doing - go for it. I highly doubt we will be back though.

We are very happy that you found our chef knowledgeable, very pleasant and entertaining. But are so sorry that you felt mislead by our class description. We have two kinds of classes “Demonstration” and “Hands-on”. You chose the demonstration format and as much as you were disappointed that it was not “hands-on” we never advertised it to be a “hands-on” class. Ours customers say it better than us; our classes are like a dinner and a show! Most of the classes are a fun and very lively demonstration, so you actually do not do the cooking! We do it all for you! You get to eat a superb meal, learn how to prepare it and have a fantastic time, while you drink the wine you brought.
We have been in business 15 years and have taught over 100,000 customers how to cook amazing meals. Your review is the first “average” 3 stars review we ever received. As you can see from the many, many reviews on this site our customers enjoy a demonstration better than hands-on experience. We hope you come back and give us another chance! Have an awesome day!!!

This is a 'must' for anyone who enjoys great food and would like to learn more about cooking. Chef Jean-Pierre is very entertaining, passionate about good food and clearly a master of his craft. He is a mine of information, giving down-to-earth tips throughout the evening. The kitchen and store are immaculate and provide a great setting. The ingredients are top quality. This was such a refreshing change from dining in a regular restaurant and the food served was absolutely first class. Being able to bring your own wine is a bonus! We highly recommend this and will certainly go again. We went as a couple but this would be a fun experience to have with a group of friends or colleagues too.

A truly amazing evening. Chef Jean Pierre was entertaining, the food was outstanding and the staff was first rate. Also if you are into cooking you definitely pick up some very useful tips. I would recommend this to everyone. An additional bonus is you can BYO beverage and thus have a great bottle of wine with no corkage fee.

Jean Pierre is one of the best teaching chefs alive. I went to his school and loved every minute of it. Where else can you learn to cook and drink wine at the same time.

Second time I've been and can't wait to return.
The food is great, the menu for the meal always thoughtful. It's very entertaining /fun and I always leave knowing more about cooking than when I arrived! It's amazing how someone can cook an entire extensive meal with all fresh ingredients before your eyes!
My favorite restaurant in ft lauderdale 👍

I got this cooking class as a gift. It was so much fun! I thought it was going to be hands on but it is more like being part of a cooking show audience, but you get to actually taste the food. Chef Jean Pierre is a great teacher and entertainer. You get to eat a lot, but heads up, you are going to be eating kinda late. Our class started at 7 and we ended up eating at 9pm. But is to totally worth the wait. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Great gift for a foodie like me! Will definitely go back.

can we come for dinner without the cooking class?

Please understand this is not a restaurant. Jean Pierre used to own one of the best restaurants in the Fort Lauderdale area. It was called "The Left Bank" and it was at the beginning of the Los Olas area. It was wonderful and about 75% of the cooking was done tableside by Jean Pierre in the small dining room. Eventually he expanded a little and as a side line he opened the cooking school on site. He soon discovered it was more in his interest for many reasons (Quality of life, family, financial, etc.) so he moved the school to its present location. He cooks a different item with each session and you do not get a whole serving but rather a sampling of what he created. At the same time, he has taught you how to go home and make it yourself or use the knowledge he has given you to improve your own recipes. Trust me when I say he is extremely funny and entertaining and what you taste and learn is exquisite. You are invited to bring your favorite wine or pair it with what the evening item is and he supplies the glasses, etc. It is a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
