- Patrick MNewark, Delaware1,066 contributionsNice ParkWe stopped here via water taxi and strolled around the park. Saw some parrots, and other birds. Stopped by the restaurant for a d rink. They do have kayaks, canoes, etc. for the lake. You can also rent beach chairs and umbrellas for the beach as well. If you need a little nature in your life stop here. The good thing about this park is it is only $6 to park here for the day and there is beach access to Fort Lauderdale beach. Come early though as the line get long.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 April 2023

The park, which can be reached either by foot, car, or water taxi, offers a serene respite from a busy schedule of vacationing. Rent a canoe, a kayak, or a bike and enjoy Florida naturally. The noise level is low, and the entry fee is even lower, how about $2 per person or $6 a car load. It offers a bar and cafe, for sandwiches and the like and a small gift shop. This park is fine. It’s a great place to park and walk across the street and be at the beach. The restaurant there though is another thing! 2 of us grabbed lunch there and we were charged a service fee. No where are you told there is a service fee. Chicken nuggets and chicken sandwich 50.00. Scam in my opinion and we won’t ever eat there again.

A little oasis in the middle of the bustle of the beach crowd and high rises. Besides the paved road, you can wander in some nice nature trails and listen to a commentary on your phone.

Lush green area with flat trails, beautiful canal views, and beach access. My son and I enjoyed the trails, but unfortunately, we didn't see any wildlife. There were also so many mosquitoes!
Don't forget the mosquito repellent!!

They had a fabulous outdoor grill in Park and Ocean. They brought in some national conglomerate that has, in a matter of days, f%**+<# it up! Basically they took something really good and turned it into a tourist trap with subpar everything. Supposedly you are now waited in but I will tell you I sat inside for 20 minutes while the supervisor screwed with her computer and talked to the way too many staff that were not doing a darn thing. One woman and I who were literally 6 feet from this oblivious fool were never spoken to once. I went out to the outdoor seats. The same guy who completely ignored us inside came out and going to just about everyone but decided to completely ignore me and at least two others. The place sucks. Florida Stare Parks are idiots for doing this. I found the Park and Ocean petition. I know it will do no good but I signed it and gave money to it. Even though I live here I will never spend a dime here. You should avoid it too. Walk down to Primanti Brothers or bring your own.

This is an amazing park! Ft. Lauderdale beach access, views of the waterway, great walking/biking loop and bathrooms/parking available. Has grills for BBQ and rentals of kayaks, and beach umbrellas/chairs.

We enjoyed an hour walking around the park and checking out the flora and fauna. Didn’t have any luck with butterflies, but that may have been off season.

Yes they do. Ask at the gate or if you enter off of A1A ask in the restaurant.
What kind of birds inhabit the park? What are some good spots to birdwatch?

Yes. There is a 1-mile coastal dune lake within the park where you can paddleboard. The concessionaire rents equipment.

I plan to be in FL at the end of April before my cruise. I am looking for a place to spend an hour or two in between hotel change ,just to relax without getting sun burnt on the beach. My questions are would Hugh Taylor Birch park be suitable for that and is there an entry fee for just strolling around or sitting in the shade? Is there parking available or close ?

There is a small cost to the park, Military are free and there are a few small car parks to stop at, plenty of parking with views of the waterways so you can watch the boats go by there are also wooded walking areas on little paths to have a wonder around.. you cannot get lost as your surrounded by water and a circular road.. lovely place for a couple of hours.....

Are there any raccoons in the park? I was there the other day and as I was walking back to my car I saw an animal that looked like a large cat run quickly across the road

I see Raccoons every time I've been in the park. Especially if I have a snack. DO NOT FEED the Raccoons or any wildlife!

Are there sea turtles at this park?
JesRedFTL123

The park has so much wildlife and birds! Also they offer tours and you can get a Brochure with more information at the Park Ranger's Station. The park is listed in The Great Florida Birding Trail Guide. There are also racconons and non-poisonous snakes, squirrels, and more. The turtles include the endangered Gopher Tortoise and and Threatened Diamond Terrapin Turtles. Tours for viewing the great Sea Turtles are listed in the Park's brochure. To my knowledge these Turtles lay their eggs and you can view the hatchlings race to the water from the Ocean Side of the park but not in the main park. Check for scheduled tours and dates to go on a Sea Turtle Watch/Walk - that is the bes way to enjoy viewing the great ocean swimming turtles.

Are there alligators there? We are renting a house that is adjacent to the park and we have babies and toddlers with us and want to be extra safe.

Hello, I just saw your question.
I don't think there are any alligators there. We did not see any warning signs about alligators.
The park is really neat.

Can you fish in park
JesRedFTL123
Fort Lauderdale, FL40 contributions
While mostly brackish water (the intercoastal is brackish water. Fresh water mixed with Salt Water from the tides that enter into and out of the Intercoastal to the Atlantic Ocean on the beach side. Its a lovely park to park and have a seat on the Sea Wall on the Intercoastal Waterway and Fish! You could catch snappers, spiny catfish and other different species of Catfish, tough fighting little Jacks, gar, barracuda, sharks (small nurse sharks or bonnet heads be careful!) A rare snook is great & possible catch. (You need a special stamp to catch Snook in the State of Florida on your fishing license) and you do need a fishing license! While practice I always practice catch and release, the ever invasive Lion Fish are everywhere in our waters and if you catch one, you should never return it to the water. They are also poisonous and if you are an experienced fisherperson you may want to flag down a Park Ranger and let him handle the fish and getting it off your line. Easist way to handle it is to cut your line Once the Fish is OUT OF THE WATER and on-land. DO NOT RETURN IT TO THE WATER. And start over with a fresh hook and bait! Neve handle these fish with your hands, they are spiny and can hurt you. Just a few helpful hints to make your relaxing day of fishing - just that - A Relaxing, Fun, pain free and safe Day!
