About
The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering an interesting and entertaining experience incorporating the famous film set as seen in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep and beef farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the village, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing you the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be taken around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit holes, the Mill and into the famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you can indulge in our exclusive, specially brewed beverages to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

The most magical and beautiful experience! A must visit!
We attended The Hobbit 10-year anniversary evening and it did not disappoint! Whilst we were there we were guided around the movie set, which is absolutely stunning! This was followed by dinner and drinks at the Green Dragon Inn, and finally, m a midnight screening to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. This was the most magical night. All the Staff were super friendly and enthusiastic, everything was kept in immaculate condition and the food was delicious. The night was capped-off by seeing shooting stars whilst watching the mid-night screening, a really unforgettable night!

    Don’t miss it!
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set. It was very well paced and we had enough time to enjoy each stop without feeling rushed. If you are lucky enough to have Paul as your guide, you will come away with a greater understanding of the production of the movies as well as interesting anecdotes about the people involved. We really appreciated his willingness to take photos of us along the way. We are now going to watch the movies again with with our new insights.

    Unbelievable
Unbelievable experience, staff were incredibly. It was so much fun, we did the evening buffet which includes the tour, it’s about 3 hours long. Food was delicious, and the scenery is beautiful. We were able to see the set in both daylight and nighttime. We took our 4 year old daughter and she loved it.

    Hobbiton adventures
As my partner is in the movie industry and has been before he was keen to come along for a second time with me as I haven't been before, it was a great experience, loads of opportunities to take photos. At the end you can get a complimentary drink in the pub very cool. I recommend booking in advance as it can fill up pretty quickly. Our tour guide Zanthia or Z was fab.

    Hobbiton is MAGICAL
We booked the Hobbiton breakfast tour, which means your group is the first one on the set and the only one for about 30 minutes. Having Hobbiton all to yourself was wonderful. The guide was great, sharing stories about the set, Peter Jackson, and the filming of various parts of LOTR movies. It is a place that you absolutely can't miss if you visit NZ. After the tour, we stopped at the Green Dragon Inn for a beverage (included in the tour). THEN...breakfast was fantastic - a banquet fit for a king - with more food than we could possibly consume. It was a magical day that was just perfect - even if you are not a huge LOTR fan. Loved every minute!

    Absolutely Amazing
Huge thanks to Cookie our guide whose knowledge and enthusiasm for the films was amazing. Cookie brought the whole set to life. After booking in, it is a short shuttle ride to the set then an easy guided walk around the Shire ending with a drink at the Green Dragon. Seriously, after visiting Hobbiton you'll want to watch the films again and spot the places you've now been - just don't do it with family or friends back home ... you'll drive them nuts.

    A great day out
We nearly cancelled as the weather was a bit wet, but we’re really glad we did not… really well organised and a great day out. Our guide knew so much and was able to show how the set was used in the films… and even offered people a couple of chances to recreate moments from the Hobbit. The time in the Green Dragon Inn at the end of the tour was a great way to end the visit. We rewatched the Hobbit films when we got home and it was great to see we’re the set in action

The Hobbiton Movie Set Evening Banquet Tour is not to be missed!
The Hobbiton Movie Set Evening Banquet Tour is not to be missed! A short drive from the meeting point (The Shire, Buckland Road which has gift shop, cafe and toilets) through beautiful scenery gets you to Hobbiton. The set is absolutely fantastic and even better than one could have imagined. It is the real deal! The walk takes you past many of the locations featured in the films and there are plenty of photo opportunities. Our guides were fabulous and full of knowledge. Whilst the walk is quite long there are many stops; my 70 year old sister was able to do it, so as long as you have a reasonable level of mobility you should be OK. By far the highlight was the dinner at The Green Dragon. This was an absolute feast! Often food is just a disappointing add-on to a tour, but the food here is a highlight. All delicious and plenty of it! The torchlight procession back to the bus is fun, again with some good photo opportunities at various hobbit-holes. It is quite a late night, but the children on our tour coped well as there is a lot to see and do.

    Worth a trip
Really enjoyable two hours - our guide was very knowledgeable and happy to pass on his gems of info. We had a nice warm day and so our trip went well. Staff were attentive and helpful to us. As expected the gift shop know how to charge. If you like the behind camera information this will be great. Worth a visit

My wife and I had an awesome experience! I was skeptical this would be super touristy with too many people but the entire tour is really well done. It starts with a bus ride and walk through the beautiful New Zealand Landscape. The farm and landscape is breath-taking. We loved our tour guide. Special shout out to Suzanne who was extremely friendly and had a great sense of humor! We enjoyed thoroughly enjoyed the free beer at the tavern at the end of our tour and thought it was a nice touch that they give you a souvenir cup! Highly recommend even if you’re not a fan of the movies.

We loved our day! This is done so well and our host Tiberius was interesting, fun and knowledgeable. We were lucky to see the brand new Hobbit holes and go in and explore them. We would highly recommend this excursion, it was great value for money!

So magical. I took my dad who was reluctant as he's not a LOTR fan and had never seen the movie. That said, he was absolutely into it and very much enjoyed it. Set design and magic for days. Just a fun little treasure. I'm glad I did it. I was really annoyed with fellow tourists as they were being so rude and obnoxious, but the guide kept her cool admirably. Kudos Kaylie (we think that's right!). The new walk in hobbit holes actually seemed to win over some of the horrible tourists and for me it transported me to a different place. Loved it.

Wow! It fully rained the whole 2.5 hours but it didn't dampen our spirits. Yes, we had to avoid poking the eyes of other tour members, but strangely the rain actually added to the atmosphere. It just seemed appropriate for the setting. Our tour guide was a laugh a minute, so suited to the role. The hobbit houses were adorable, the gardens beautiful and the surrounding landscape was lush. The only letdown was some tourists who ignored the tour guide's instructions. The tour was perhaps 30 minutes too long for us, but I don't see how you could shorten it, considering the vast area it encompasses.

The photos and videos doesn’t do it justice. You must do the tour to appreciate the sheer scale and quality of the set. It was such a fun trip, especially now that you can actually go inside a fully built hobbit home that just invokes those feelings you had when you first watched LOTR. It was worth every penny and if you’re visiting NZ, put it on your to-do-list!

Don’t have to say much! This place is amazing. The attention to detail is astounding. Today was the first day they allowed people into the inside of a hobbit hole and all I can say is wow. One of the best places to visit in all of New Zealand.

This place is nothing short of amazing. The attention to detail is just incredible & our tour guide Jacob was the best! He has a wealth of information about everything -being totally passionate on all things Hobbiton! We were also blessed with a beautiful sunny day & did the 2nd breakfast tour which was a great way to end this memorable visit. Would recommend to everyone - we hadn't seen the films or read the books but intend to do so now! A must see on your itinery.

Fantastic experience. You don’t have be a huge hobbit or lord of the rings fans (helps if you at least watched some of the movies). Tour guide was great and informative. The experience was great with mugs and beer to boot! The value was good. Definitely worth a stop.

If you love the LOR book or films you will love this place. See where Frodo greeted Gandalf, Bag End, the Green Dragon, the bench where Gandalf and Bilbo blew smoke rings.
The Shire was brilliantly created for the films.
