About
The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering an interesting and entertaining experience incorporating the famous film set as seen in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep and beef farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the village, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing you the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be taken around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit holes, the Mill and into the famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you can indulge in our exclusive, specially brewed beverages to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

1. They don’t rush you.
2. There is so much food, you can’t put it all on your plate. You are expected to go up many more times so please, don’t hold back.
3. There is shire’s rest cafe is on point with the $$$ price of food, compared to the bake house, cafe’s etc. the size of the donut’s are killer.
4. Go there early to buy gifts in the gift shop because the shop is very small, too many people inside after your tour. Buy then take them back to your vehicle before the tour starts. Plus check out the Cronuts at the cafe.
5. I’m going to go back for a different tour.

An absolute must for any LOTR fan, and highly reccomended for non fans as well. It was an overcast day when I arrived for a morning tour. I was a little early, and there is a small gift shop to browse through and the Shire's Rest Cafe if you are looking for a bite to eat. The bus took the large tour group to the movie set where the assigned tour guide walked us through, allowing the group to stop for some photos every so often. The movie set and landscape is gorgeous. It was a dream come true to see Bag End, hobbit homes, gardens and bridge to the Green Dragon Inn. A highlight was the new addition to the tour, allowing us to meader through and take photos of the inside of a Hobbit home. There was such care in crafting each room of the home and was filled to the brim with delightful details such as pottery, food, photos and bric a brac. Just as our group headed over the bridge toward the Green Dragon Inn, it started to downpour which made it a perfect time to enjoy a complimentary Southfarling Sackville Cider by the fireplace. For purchase I had a decent beef and ale pie. Although the male tour guide from the UK was a bit on the snarky side it did not put a damper on the experience. Definitely one of the most memorable days in my month long trip to NZ!

The scale and detail of Hobbiton was the first thing that stood out upon entering.tue Shire. Rolling hills with 40-50 Hobbit front doors visible as you walk through the set and are amazed by the small details of the grounds. Exploring the homes inside is even more impressive and it’s clear why the films were such a success. So much time, money and details b come quite evident. The ground staff can exceed 300+ in peak season, and walking around you can understand why.
A stroll over the bridge to the Green Dragon for a drink is great fun as we sit in front of the fire relaxing. Then the meal in a great food hall (buffet style) is outstanding, and huge!

Our guide Sam was amazing! The entire tour was full of magic and behind the scenes info from the movies and making of Hobbiton. It was everything I thought it would be and more. What a beautiful place! We went to the 8:30 am tour and I would recommend that or earlier… by the time we were finishing up the set was packed with people. I liked going earlier and having less crowds. I can’t wait to come back and go to Hobbiton again.

My Wife and I went on the Evening Banquet Tour (EBT) and what a fantastic experience it was. It had been about 10 years since we visited last and wow what a difference! The movie set looks absolutely wonderful made better by doing the tour in the late afternoon with the sun setting. Our two tour guides Stephen and Ben were amazing, very knowledgeable and great ambassadors for Hobbiton. The banquet feast following the tour was really good…lots of great food and plenty of it. The staff in the Green Dragon were very friendly and helpful as well. All in all we had a terrific experience and we can really recommend the EBT as a must do experience to everyone. Thanks again to all the staff at Hobbiton…you are all fantastic!

We booked directly through the website as we had a rental car and chose to do the extended tour with the lunch. I highly recommend booking in advance as they were sold out the day of when we arrived to check-in. Mikayla was our tour guide and she was great with us. Allowing me extra time to take photographs with my camera when others in the group were somewhat oblivious to the fact that they were sharing a tour with other people. The food during the lunch was outstanding. Actually one of the better meals I had while in NZ. Also the addition of the new walk-in hobbit holes really made the whole experience amazing. I look forward to seeing the types of additions they add to the site over the years and hopefully will get a chance to return.

We were very fortunate with the weather on our trip to Hobbiton - the skies were blue and full of clouds. It lent a beautiful hue to the flowers and hills and made everything feel magical. While I joked before hand that Hobbiton is sort of like New Zealand Disneyland, I found myself utterly enchanted by the space. It's like a botanical garden and movie set, and the food package we paid for was delicious and more than I would have expected. I highly, highly recommend going to visit!

We paid for their new "Behind the scenes" tours, which included a workshop tour and an additional set walk and more food than I could ever eat in a day.

Hobbiton Movie Set – a place where the movie "Lord of the Rings" was filmed. Several Hobbit houses were built after the shooting. We were allowed to go into two houses and look at the small things (furniture, dishes, etc.). Afterwards we tasted beer and enjoyed a real lunch buffet. It was good to see that once, but the entrance was expensive.

A magical experience for anyone obsessed with Lord of the rings!
The day we went, the weather was just amazing (we wen in Feb 2024 though caption says March and I can’t change it)
Umbrellas were provided to keep the sun off you and our guide (I can’t remember her name, she was a young girl but had been doing it for years during school break) was great, very knowledgeable and funny! Couldn’t fault the experience at all!!!

I am not a huge lord of the rings fan and only went because the couple we were traveling with wanted to go but I have to admit it was really cool and I we really enjoyed it. My favorite part was the inside, so much attention was paid to every detail. There is a lot of walking on uneven surfaces so it isn't suitable for those with limited mobility.
