About
The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering an interesting and entertaining experience incorporating the famous film set as seen in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep and beef farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the village, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing you the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be taken around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit holes, the Mill and into the famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you can indulge in our exclusive, specially brewed beverages to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

Breathtaking, so much more incredible than you could imagine
I nearly cried when I saw the first Hobbit Hole. I've loved Lord of the Rings my entire life and it felt so surreal being able to see Hobbiton in person. So much more breathtaking than I could've imagined.

    Exceeded expectations!~
The Second Breakfast tour was incredible, I had high expectations and they were exceeded. The building with the water wheel was beautifully crafted and quaint - Jamie and the team did an incredible job, welcoming and smiling, the food delicious, and made a huge effort for a vegetarian meal for the woman I was sitting next to. Our tour guide was fun and we learned so much about the set. Highly recommend to everyone.

    Hobbition day experience
Amazing experience, tour guide from Hobbiton from Victoria, very funny and knowledgable, wish we had more time to spend at the Tavern, would have loved to done the buffet experience. It's definitely a to do activity if you have the time and money. Also an inclusive activity, just suggest you speak with the providers prior to your trip, my mum has a dodgy hip and knee so she got to experience the tour on a golf buggy - she absolutely loved it and has recommended to all her work colleagues in Auckland.

    Walk down memory lane
A must visit place for the hobbit and lord of the rings fans. It was a guided tour and our tour guide was from the USA and she was great in explaining each part of the set and what it was used for. The locale was beautiful and at the end of your tour you get a free drink at the Green Dragon.

LOTR / Hobbit fan.. DO THIS TOUR.
A must do if youre a fan. Amazing experiance. Guides were full of enthusiasm and knowledge. Proper nerds which was great. Olivia is a gem and i think it was mike was a great guide. Went on a late tour with meal in the green dragon inn. No words.. itwasa brilliant experiance. The food was out of this world.. the best lamb i have ever tasted and the amount of food was astonishing. Took my daughter and she is vegitarian and they catered for her requirements perfectly. They were all so friendly and accomodating. Id go over and over again if i didnt live the otherside of the world.

    Amazing!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was a little put off by the price but I’m so glad we ended up going. Our family of 3 (2 school aged kids) really enjoyed our tour with buffet lunch. Even though the kids hadn’t seen the movies the set was still pretty magical to them. Hobbiton was a lot bigger than I was expecting and the whole operation (buses, shop, dining hall, bar, hobbit holes) was a lot grander than I was expecting. The attention to detail is exceptional. The food was delicious, drinks were lovely, your guide was funny and well organised. So many photo opportunities. I’d love to go back when their construction of the new hobbit hole rooms is complete

    A day of wonder.
From the time I parked I knew I was in for a good day. The lovely ticketing staff where welcoming and helpful giving me all the info that I needed. I then proceeded to the warm and inviting cafe and enjoyed a warm beverage before my tour just anticipating the tour ahead. Once on the bus ready for the tour I could barely contain my excitement for what had been many years of waiting. To walk among the hobbit holes and to see bag end was a bucket list moment for me. Then to cap it all off we got to eat like a hobbit and have a drink at the green dragon. I was like a kid again.

Try You will never regret! 🙂
It was one of the best experiences I had. We took the tour which was done by MR. TOM . staying for more than 10 years . The team from hobbiton was incredible! We arrived then bus drive for 10 mins to reach the place. The team will explain everything related to the movie. It is one of the unique experiences that everyone should try! The best part that they give complimentary beer ( which is only brewed in Hobbiton) , tea , and juices at the end of the tour, which was perfect with weather 👌 DM me for this incredible tour guide ! Has his private Van . Max capacity is 5 passengers only! Definitely recommend for small group.

    Fun experience
I would say that we are ‘average’ fans of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies/books, in that we have seen them, but would not describe ourselves as huge fans. To be honest, when they spoke about events in the films that occurred at various locations, we could not for the most part remember them! I say this because we still loved the experience here. The location is glorious and gives a nice taste of New Zealand. It is very easy to get to and we drove rather than doing a tour. It was very informative and provided ample picture time. Overall it is about 1.5hr and certainly worth doing for multiple reasons. We would have no hesitation in recommending it.

    Worth stopping off for
We stopped off to do the tour on our way from Auckland to Rotorura - 2 hours from Auckland and then an hour onwards. It was quite busy so we were pleased we’d booked but they offered us a 1220 tour instead of our 1310 one. We were shown round by the impressively bi-lingual German, David, who seemed to have mastered the entire canon of Tolkien and Peter Jackson. You catch a bus out to the site, watching an intro video on the way, and then walk round, finishing with a choice of alcoholic beers or non-alcoholic ginger beer in the Shire pub. It’s well done and the anecdotes of the filming are interesting. The Old Shire’s Rest cafe offered some good options afterwards for a reasonable price.

The Hobbiton movie set tour was definitely one of the highlights of our two week trip to NZ. The tour guides are friendly, knowledgeable, and assist with photo opportunities. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous and surreal after seeing the films. The new inside-the-hobbit-hole experience was really interesting, but watch your head if over 6ft tall! Highly recommend booking lunch with the tour. The locals agreed that it was the best lamb they had ever had, and they had options for gluten free and vegan meals as well.

Amazing trip to Hobbiton for all- LOTR fans and others. Our tour guide Emma was fabulous and made the tour very interactive. Staff all friendly and helpful. Parking great in a big camper. Has a cafe but we didnt need to use it. The new interactive Hobbit homes are stunning. A must visit for anyone.

Our guide was knowledgeable and the set was amazing. I was excited to see Hobbiton, The party tree and grounds, etc. Going inside a Hobbit hole was the Piece de Resistance! Thanks for an exciting tour.

I’ve always wanted to visit Hobbiton and every part of the tour exceeded my expectations. I didn’t want to leave. Loved that children are free as my 7 year old attended too and she loved it even though she hasn’t seen the movies. So good that you can now enter a couple of the hobbit holes. This made the tour even better. I could honestly live in one of those little homes. Highly recommend this fantastic tour to anyone whether you have seen the movies or not. Next time I’m in the North I will come for a night tour

We had an absolutely fabulous time at Hobbiton. We went into the tour with high expectations (just look at the rest of the reviews!) but were still very pleasantly surprised by just how incredible and immersive the movie set is, and how wonderful the tour was. We were part of a group walking tour, starting off with a short bus journey from the visitors car park + gift shop to the Shire itself, and ending with a pint at the Green Dragon Inn! Our guide was wonderful (I think she was called Ellie), and made the whole experience that much better by chatting away, giving us plenty of interesting facts about the movies, the cast, the books, and the set itself. I was truly blown away at the level of detail in everything - down to the real vegetables growing in the veggie beds around the sets! We were very lucky to see the newly-opened Hobbit houses (not in the movies, but very intricate sets of how a typical 'Hobbit house' might look, just opened in the last 4 or so months). They were incredible! We loved how interactive it all was - visitors are encouraged to touch and interact with the set as much as they'd like. Could not recommend a tour through Hobbiton more - well worth the money and a true highlight of any NZ trip itinerary!

Our guide was passionate and went out of his way to ensure we enjoyed the experience, helping to take photos etc. The Bagshot Row hobbit hole we visited was simply exquisite. We did not expect the interior to be quite so detailed, and were truly blown away. I had to remind myself at times that this was not a real hobbit residence. My kids enjoyed taking a photo in the bath and in the bunk beds. Allowed interaction one that was a great touch. Thank you so much for the magical experience!

A lifetime experience to have. Surely not a cheap one, but definitely an interesting one, especially if you are into LOTR and Hobbit movies.
The tour starts with a tour guide picking you up, getting you with the bus to the filming location, and continues with this tour guide guiding you for few hours through the movie set. At the end of the tour, there is a stop at the pub where you can get a free drink that's included in the ticket's price, any additional drink, or something small to eat.
Lately, one hobbit house with its interior has been open to the tour, so now you can even see the interior where some scenes were filmed. I have managed to see that on my tour, so lucky me!
I recommend to make your reservation for the place weeks, if not months in advance. The place is completely booked out during the season.

Wow! What a place. We didn’t want to leave Hobbiton, it was so magical. Our tour guide Sarah was enthusiastic, engaging, funny and passionate and she really drew us in to the work behind the scenes. The interior of the hobbit hole we explored was incredible… such attention to detail! We bought the lunch package and the food was tasty - it was nice to sit ‘family style’ around the tables with our tour companions and get chatting. Highly recommend!

I am not a lord of the rings fan so was apprehensive about doing this trip but my wife is so decision made. Wow I was blown away by the place. It is an enchanting place and you are led by knowledgeable and passionate guides through the place. The highlight was the walkthrough a hobbit house which was simply amazing. The tour including free beer at the end takes 2.5 hours and was great value for money
