Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I've been here a few times with friends, and have been impressed each time with the quality of the experience. The ticket machines are well-maintained (there are a lot of theatres where these machines are always broken), seats are comfortable, prices are reasonable for a Connecticut movie theatre, and the entire experience is welcoming and intimate. For all that this theatre is pretty centrally located in New Haven, it never seems to be too busy, but it's not rundown or shabby.

Very comfortable cinema. Smaller size, not a megaplex. Shows mainstream films, arthouse, and revival films. Check for the weekend midnight movies and Sunday "movie and mimosa" matinees. Easiest parking is directly across the street in the parking garage.

Criterion on Temple St ... located in town... great to walk to after dinner at some of the finest restaurants in the state! Theater is friendly, clean and shows great art flicks.

I recently visited this theater with my husband. The staff is very nice but the actual theater was smelly and the air was stale...the entire room smelled of bad breath if you can imagine. The air just seems to sit there, absolutely no circulation at all. You sort of feel it on you. If this theater was renovated it could be amazing. I love that the theater has beer and wine and good snacks.

Where I live, the big movie theater chains focus on the major Hollywood releases and pay very little attention to independent, foreign and art films. So when I visited New Haven I was pleased to find the Bow Tie running films that I'd never have a chance to see at home.

The projection, sound, and seating here are all fine, and there's not a lot to say about any of them. The concession stand has good options including a few I haven't seen at other theaters before.

The Bow Tie also has special screenings like their Insomnia Theater for anyone who'd like to see an old film late at night.

The only downside to this theater is that if you are arriving by car, you'll need to find a place to park on the street or in a nearby garage. Not a deal breaker, just a minor inconvenience.

This is a valuable asset for anyone who loves movies and likes some of the excellent films shunned by the big chain multiplexes. I wish we had one where I live.

Last week we went to see a movie about wild mustangs. It was a benefit for All The King's Horses Equine Rescue. They rented one of the theaters there for this movie. The theater is beautiful inside, well worth the trip to New Haven.

Long layover waiting in the train. Caught the free shuttle to explore and found this place. 10 minute walk back to Union Station after the movie.

If you've got a couple hours to kill, it's worth the walk or the ride.

My husband and I went to see movie here during an overnight stay in New Haven. It was near the hotel we in which we stayed. The theater is relatively clean and comfortable and the popcorn was good. We stopped in early to buy our tickets before we ate dinner. I asked about a restaurant nearby and the young woman selling tickets appeared to have no interest in giving us any information, quickly answering, "I don't know."

It always seems too expensive when parking is considered, but the titles, projection and seats are good. and does not have Cine 1-14 goofy reserved couches.
