I love wandering around the Yale area, not just for the cool shops and restaurants, but also for the gorgeous buildings and laidback, intelligent vibes. Take your time and pay attention to the stunning details on the various buildings, wander to the Green to see what social activity's being held, and take a tour of campus if you have some time. The campus is a bit spread out and requires some walking, but it's worth a visit if you're able to manage the walk. Visitors can enter the library, which is great. In good weather, students will study outside, so between the students and the tours, it's a busy area.

I was blown away at how beautiful the University was. Aril was the perfect time for a visit. The buildings reminded me of Europe, unlike anything else I have seen in the U.S. The campus was walkable and had lots of helpful signage. Could not enter any buildings because of COVID. Great time though.

You really should park and stroll for a few hours because the university is HUGE.
I went before school started, so it was not really busy, but now that school HAS started....
Parking is metered along the street. There's two apps, including Park Mobile.
University security was very helpful in directions and buildings to see.
You can see the School of Music, Art, Business, Yale President's house, their shopping strip, their religious school, and more.
There's so much to see here that I really can't mention it all, just because there's so many buildings the students use.
The dorms I believe are the ones students use a card to get into some big gates.
The shopping area includes food, clothing, Yale themed items, electronics, and more.
The Yale store had tons of items like clothing, toys, cups, stuffed dogs, and books.
There are not really any places to freely use the restroom.
Really recommend checking out Yale while in town. It's cool to imagine if I had tried harder in school and could've attended here 🤪

What a beautiful campus. Unfortunately, there were no tours do to Covid protocols. The University dates back to 1701. Gothic style architecture and greenery are found throughout. It feels like the campus is the heart of New Haven.

Went on a student led tour. Beautiful campus and lots of great information about Yale. If you like learning statistics and history about the university, this would be a good place to start. The student led tours are mostly outdoors and require quite a bit of walking around for the hour so be comfortable. Tour guides are very knowledgeable so ask questions! The tour ended at the Yale bookstore where you can purchase souvenirs or check out items in the Barnes and Noble type store.

We travelled with 3 young kids (1, 3 and 6 years old). We all enjoyed the views, buildings, atmosphere of the university. The libraries are amazing, you can go inside and look, most see! Since the weather was nice, we had picnic on the grass same as the students. :) Thank you!

From SC, here for college tour. Campus is in the middle of New Haven, has a city vibe. Campus is beautiful, architecture is stunning. Everyone seems genuinely happy to be here. Campus is very walkable. Larger then we expected. Luved that the dorms are individual “colleges” with court yards and that an advisor/Dean is onsite. Campus feels safe, gated entry to colleges and all buildings locked. Wish potential students could see some classrooms/labs on the tour. Stadium and fields are pretty far away and not walkable. Nice downtown area with lots of dining n shopping options. Parking is limited.

We have visited a few campuses in different cities and as we were in Connecticut, we decided to go to New Haven and see Yale. It has that university feel you get in places like Oxford. The building are just amazing and the area has the vibrant feel. We enjoyed our visit and recommend it if you are in the area.

The day before we visited Yale - we had visited the Harvard campus - and I think the air at Harvard is just a little smarter then the air at Yale....could be wrong though. Fun place to walk around and hit up some shops and diners.

Where do I park if I want to have a quick tour of the campus on my own?
Written 28 August 2021
There's plenty of street parking (metered) in the neighborhoods surrounding the campus. You should easily be able to find a spot near the New Haven Greens (centrally located park) or on the streets with shops near The Greens and between State Street - and then walk around the campus.

Hi

Written 26 January 2017
If you go alone, you can only visit he University from the outside I think. With the guide you enter at least to the gardens and see things from inside. If you go alone, also you miss lots of interesting information.
The guided tour is free, so I recommend you take it
