- Maltipoo16New York1,843 contributionsSmaller AquariumThe aquarium was very fun. The sea lions were definitely our fan favorite as well as all of the jellyfish! It is definitely in need of some upgrades and some remodels. It is very small, but the outdoor exhibits and walking trail are a really great addition. I was able to pay an extra fee and feed a sting ray as a fun experience! For being in a smaller town and not a major city, it’s a very nice aquarium. They do have a lot of hands on activities as well that are good for kids.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 1 October 2023
- Roblenk3 contributionsNot very impressed!Easy to access with plenty of parking. We did not feel comfortable seeing 4 adult beluga whales in a very small concrete tank which did not afford them much space. The same applied to the sea lion enclosure and a small overcrowded area for the South African penguins. Disappointing from an animal welfare point… we left very quickly.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 October 2023
- christopherbO9687MPActon, Massachusetts728 contributionsCompact Aquarium with local Long Island Sound focus and lots of kid-oriented displaysThis is a compact Aquarium with a local Long Island Sound sealife focus and lots of kid-oriented hands-on displays. This isn't as large as other aquariums, which also means it can be covered in a reasonable amount of time (this isn't an all-day commitment). The live seal show was fun, be sure to time your visit so you can see that. About half the sealife displays are outside, so consider that if the weather is iffy.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 14 October 2023
- Adrien Berg1 contributionAn absolute oceanic adventure! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by playful penguins, majestic beluga whales, and all sorts of marine wonders. The touch tanks and interactive exhibits are a hit with kids and kids at heart. But what really got me was the conservation focus and the chance to learn about the incredible work they do for marine life. Plus, the outdoor sea lion show is a hoot! It's not just an aquarium; it's a deep dive into the beauty and importance of our oceans. Mystic Aquarium is a must-visit for families, animal lovers, or anyone looking for a splash of undersea magic. 🐟🌊🐧Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 October 2023

Saw the exhibits inside the building. We had bought tickets in advance. When we bought the tickets a month ago the website said they closed at 6. Well the winter hours has them closing at 4. So we only had a half hour to see the aquarium. Very disappointing.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 October 2023
- CS0160Seymour, Connecticut98 contributionsA Day Out w. FriendsI have not been here since I was a kid…. We brought our friends here from out of town/country which is not ideal since it is winter time but we were able to view the animals and visit the exhibits. Still a wonderful place to take the kids many different things to see and learn. Unfortunately one of the whales was sick was an intestinal infection and they had to put it in intensive care. – Very sad…. The news stopped reporting on the well-being of the whale and nothing online hopefully it’s doing much better. A great place to visit, and even though it was cold we still had a nice time. Highly recommend it.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 31 December 2023
- laurmann2000Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida113 contributionsVery nice but overpricedI would have rated this 5 stars if not for the price. $40+ for each adult is crazy and doesn’t include the dinosaur exhibit. It’s a relatively small aquarium that I think should not be priced over $25 for adults. Anyway, it’s, as I said, small but quite nice. I loved the outdoor beluga whales and seals and penguins. Inside was VERY crowded but the exhibits are nice. Loved the jelly fish section the most. Great place to bring the family if you are prepared for crowds (maybe go during the week) and to spend a bit of cash.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 February 2024
- Paul A3 contributionsWonderful Penguin Encounter! In the beginning of March, for a milestone birthday, my family treated me to a Penguin encounter at Mystic Aquarium. I love Penguins! This was a wonderful gift to mark the occasion. Felicia was our guide, and she did a great job. She was cheerful, professional, and very informative. We got to meet penguin "Purple Grey". She is named for the identifying color beads she wears. Purple Grey was beautiful! My family and I loved the whole experience. It was fascinating and incredible to be so close to a real penguin. Thank you, Felicia and assistants Debbie and Fatima.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 March 2024

- Jana BWorcester, Massachusetts925 contributionsGreat aquarium! It was our first time visiting this aquarium (my son and I enjoyed this aquarium more than the one in Boston). It was a great experience and my son really enjoyed that Dino exhibit, it was worth the extra cost and it this exhibit in a 4D movie (we saw Ice Age) which was cool! My son was so excited to see the beluga whales and do the virtual reality experience (it’s an extra cost and worth every penny! We did the shark one, there are a few different ones to choose from). We arrived at 9am when they opened, which was perfect as it got very busy as the day went on, so I would recommend going early!Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 April 2024

We paid for the penguin encounter which was well over $500 for our family of four by the time it was all done. We paid $79 per person online and when we arrived (after driving over an hour to get there) they told us we need to pay the general admission $35 per person for the entire family in addition to the penguin encounter fee- even though they were closed for a private event! I was appalled!
However, we paid because I had a nine year old son who had recently had two major brain surgeries, went blind and and almost died. We had just drove such a long way, and had been talking about it for weeks. We would pass the long days in the hospital talking about what we would do when we got out of the hospital - he really wanted to see a penguin! His spirit animal- so we paid (through the nose!) We spoke to the manager about our disdain and they simply told us the only thing they could do is reschedule us for another day. I was not about to drive back home and then drive back to Mystic anytime soon. I’ll never go there again, and I tell everyone about what a horrible experience we had. They should do better!!!
The entire trip was miserable and very expensive. DO NOT RECOMMMEND AT ALL! Don’t waste your time and money. Not very friendly or accommodating.

For the price we paid per person, I thought it was a bit too much. It's beautiful with some exhibits that you may not see in other aquariums. The beluga whales I have never seen before! Such beautiful creatures! We loved the multiple touch tanks a well. For the price we pay, you should include the theater as well.
Now for the annoying part.. you would never know that had times ticketing. People were literally on top of people at the tanks, and through the inside sections. No one was keeping track of how have people were inside. Why? What's the point of ticketing if you allow so many people per hour who can then stay as long as they want? Even though you really only need to spend 2 hours or less, it isn't working.

My wife and I took our two children to Mystic Aquarium at 10:00am on a Wednesday.
Their website advertises "Covid Precautions" and that they are practicing social distancing, constantly cleaning exhibitis, and putting the consumers safety as a priority.
We ordered our tickets online as directed, expecting we would breeze through as they are limiting customers per time slot. When we arrived there was a line of 200-300+ people to enter the aquarium. After waiting 20 minutes, we finally got through the gates to find out the inside was equally as crowded.
If you bring a stroller forget about it! It is basically like bumper cars, but with strollers. Inside you cannot move without hitting someone, or something. Outside you are standing 20 feet from the exhibits because the crowds are so large against the immediate exhibits. Indoors, you have to wait to get near any of the tanks.
We stayed for approximately 1 hour, discussed how ridiculous the crowds were (let alone unsafe per the CDC protocols). We left.
It was $110 for 3 tickets (our youngest was free). Waste of time, and money. Glad the money goes to helping a good cause.

We visited on a Saturday, which would normally make it very busy this time of year. However, COVID means fewer people traveling this year and fewer people allowed in. We got tickets online, which guaranteed entry between noon and 2 pm. Fewer people means a more pleasant experience inside. This is a nice aquarium. The main draw is the three beluga whales. Unfortunately, all shows are cancelled due to social distancing concerns, leaving the poor belugas looking very bored. There were also no Crocs or Gators on display for reasons unknown. This is not a huge aquarium, so 2 hours should be plenty of time. We did not hit the snack bar, but the gift shop is very well stocked ( I love gift shops!). Very easy to get to, being right off I95, and plenty of parking.

Our family had a great visit here. Tips: Go in the morning if you can, and expect to spend 2 to 3 hours. You can cover everything there is to see in that time. Definitely don't miss the sea lion show: it's included in your admission and only about 20 minutes long, and it's very entertaining. (We saw it twice in one visit!)
It was a very busy summer Friday when we were there, and we couldn't get much out of the indoor galleries because they were so crowded (and the lighting is dim). Keeping track of our kids indoors was stressful. I would recommend a "no strollers inside" policy, at least on very busy days, because the many strollers and wagons with kids made it very difficult to navigate. But most of what we wanted to see was outside, and very worth the trip. Special kudos to the cafeteria staff, who were working hard to move the line through quickly!

Family friendly aquarium, not as big as New England, but worth it to see the amazing Beluga whales. You can cover the entirety in a few hours. The Dinosaur exhibit is geared more towards smaller kids and not really worth the asking price if you're not a member. Other highlights are the penguins and jellyfish exhibits. Combine with the Seaport museum for a fun day.

Such a fun place to visit! We took the drive out from the Capital District of NY, it took a little over 2.5 hours to get here but it was worth it for us!
MASKS ARE REQUIRED****
Tickets need to be purchased online with a time check in before arrival. We chose 11AM and we were let in line at 10:50, and got in just at 11.
We started with the loop outside and this was our favorite part! We got to see beluga whales, Sean lions, seals and African Penguins. I feel like we got our money worth with these 4 visits of the animals! The employees are so well educated on the animals and could answer any questions you had!
We then headed inside where it was PACKED! We expected that because it is winter break, but it was so hot inside! We stood in line for about 10 minutes for 1 touch tank, that had sting rays, fish and mini sharks. It was a disappointment, there was so much splashing from little kids in the touch tank that the animals weren’t coming close. Luckily that wasn’t the only touch tank there was. So we went on our way and moved about to the other exhibits.
The other parts of the inside were your typical fish, and other animals that we had seen before because we frequent aquariums. So we didn’t spend too much time on them.
We then got our hand stamped and went out to our car to eat. I highly suggest this because the one cafe they had was packed. We didn’t look at it, but wasn’t looking to spend a fortune on cafeteria food.
After we went back in, and did the large sting ray touch tank. DO IT! I feel like this was a little hidden gem. There had to be at least 10 sting rays and they were so friendly! We spent a good 20-30 minutes because there wasn’t anyone in there. It was a lot calmer than the tank inside.
All together we spent about 3 hours at the aquarium which seems to be the “normal time frame.” We didn’t pay extra to see the movie that they offer so I can’t comment on that.
The gift shop worked great for us, they had a variety of things. A little pricey but that’s to be expected in my opinion. If you’re looking for a cheap souvenir, they have penny machines for .51 around outside. We got some of them too.

My family and I visited the aquarium on a Thursday. They have "timed entry" now as a COVID precaution and our time slot was 1pm. We paid well over $100 just to get in as a family of 4 and barely got to see anything because of the massive amount of people. My kids couldn't get anywhere near anything without being pushed by other people.. There is no way they are monitoring the amount of people going in. We have visited the aquarium on 3 other occasions and it had NEVER been that crowded, even on a weekend! They also now charge for everything you do inside, besides the sea lion show. Complete rip off for the price!

It was many years ago when we last visited the aquarium. This was a good place to take our four year old grandson before he began pre-school. You must reserve entrance tickets prior to your arrival and select the time you want to arrive. The check in was fine and the facility was not crowded either due to it was a Tuesday or limited admissions because of Covid. The viewing areas both outside and inside flow nicely in order to see all of the attractions. They allow a two hour visit which was ample time to see everything at a leisurely pace.

We weren't sure what to expect as the aquarium gets such mixed reviews. Our experience was great. It is a small facility, but it packs a lot into the space. I think people complain because they just breeze through and don't stop to talk with the volunteers and watch. Some of the staff were great, others not, but the volunteers were very helpful and informative. When we first arrived we were overwhelmed by the crowds of school groups, but they quickly dispersed and didn't stay for long. It was better later in the day on a school day, not sure during the summer or on weekends. The exhibits were well maintained, the entire place was clean and well kept. It was quick to enter with our advance tickets. Food prices are high (typical of amusement venues though), you can walk next door to the Shoppes and find something more affordable, and there are fast food places right across the street. We brought a picnic, it was easy to re-enter the aquarium after going to the car to eat lunch. The sea lion show was good, people left through half way through and missed the best part at the end. Sit up front and a sea lion will come out of the water and pose for photos on the floor mats. We paid extra for my daughter to feed the rays and she loved it. Otherwise we just did what was included in the general admission and had a full experience. Based on the staff required to run the aquarium and the amount of food needed to feed the whales, seals. sea lions, and everyone else, the price makes sense. Take your time and really look into each tank, watch the trainers work with the whales, and listen to the information the volunteers happily share and you will not feel that the place is "too small" or "too expensive".
