Paddlingsfabriken is unfortunately also marketing locations that are privately owned by others. They sell tours to these areas without having the permission of the owner. It is very sad that Paddlingsfabriken does not respect the land owner but aims at gaining commercially from areas owned by genuine islanders. The islets in the outer archipelago are not tourist attractions. If you care about nature and the local islanders' rights, you should keep to tours within the national park only.

A three-hour paddle with Jöns through the Ekenäs Archipelago was easily one of the highlights of my visit to Finland. We paddled through blue waters past pristine forests and lovely farmhouses and saw all manner of waterfowl including a pair of swans (the Finish national bird) with their young. As an experienced kayaker, I found Jöns to be thoroughly knowledgeable about sea kayaking — he should be; as a boy he padded four km to school in Ekenäs from his home on the island of Gullö. This could be an easy day trip from Helsinki. Ekenäs is a charming seaside town about an hour from the Finish capital.

It was one of the summer highlights to meet with you and share experiences. I hope to be able to make a visit to your area, experience it - and perhaps share my experiences to your fellow paddlers in your location. All the best, Jöns

If you want to see Finlands archipelago from a different perspective and experience it hands-on - this is really to recommend.
Feel the water and nature from a kajak with a a very good guide. Eat a lunch made on open fire, go skinny dipping after the sauna spend a day (or longer) on the water in between the finnish Islands.
Tailored trips with kajaks one-to-one or i groups - really highly recommended

Although we were offered the opportunity to have the kayaks transported to any location near Raseborg, we decided to set off directly from the beach at the establishment's location on Gullö. After 3 hours of easy paddling we reached an island with a free public sauna and nice camping sites. The next day we decided to relax and enjoy the sun and the sea, so we paddled a few hours to an island with an amazing hidden lagoon, and spent the rest of the day there. The last day we paddled through the beautiful archipelago back to Paddlingsfabriken.

The owner, Jöns, is a true kayaking man, and knows the archipelago. We had an interesting conversation when he showed some wooden kayaks he had built by hand. Beyond those, and the touring kayaks we rented, Paddlingsfabriken has an impressing range of different kayaks to rent. Jöns was also kind to snap a few photos of us when we were closing the shore at the end of our trip :)

If you go an a self-organized trip, it is a good idea to bring your own map. Jöns borrowed us a map, but we did well with our own maps printed from the web.

Jöns Aschan is a highly experienced kayaker, ice skater and general outdoors person. He has an intricate and in-debt knowledge of the region centered around Ekenäs (Tammisaari) but does operate in places like Hangö (Hanko) and elsewhere by agreement. He operates a friendly and flexible business, approx 1.5 hours drive west from Helsinki. He is a paddling instructor, kayak builder and generally all round nice guy whose manner is very easy going. He speaks English, Swedish, Finnish fluently. It is possible to hire equipment from him by prior agreement. His location is ideal for those who would like an introduction to the beautiful scenery and nature of Ekenäs national park or general coastal archipelago in the area. He can do guided day tours or longer trips with overnights. He is happy to impart advice etc. Well worth checking out and making contact if you would like to try paddling or have previous paddling experience and would like to hire equipment. One must remember that this is, by its nature, an outdoor pursuit activity and can be subject to weather limitations. You can control everything but the weather. He does operate kayaking in the winter but this is subject to the kayakers abillities and I think that kayakers understand this. Skating trips can also be undertaken in the area with Jöns in the winter months and is a novelty if you want to have a real Nordic experience. I recommend ;) ;)

I had booked a place on a beginner's course with my wife. Turned out we were the only participants, but that did not bother Jöns. He gave us an unhurried private kayaking tour in the breath-taking surroundings of Gullö. My wife doesn't speak that much Finnish so the tour was given in English.

The equipment was top-notch, the archipelago just stunning and the instructor was both informative, interesting and patient enough. We had really an enjoyable evening and have no hesitations recommeding Paddlingsfabriken for anyone looking to either learn kayaking or just spending a day enjoying the beautiful archipelago.

We rented two tandem kayaks for just a few hours. Starting from Gullo, we took a narrow river-like passage between the islands and did a short tour in the archipelago. Everything was simply amazing! The scenery in the area is truly outstanding and unique. Special thanks to Jöns, who was extremely kind and flexible and tried to make our experience as easy and enjoyable as possible. The kayaks are very stable, so even those with little experience should feel comfortable. After kayaking, we stopped for a drink at Ekenäs, a very cute Porvoo-like village. It was a perfect one-day trip from Helsinki.
