The history of the Donner Party was very interesting. You won't need a lot of time to stop in and see the museum but it's worth the trip.

I wanted to come her for a while. It was a little disappointing. The museum was small and the exhibits were not that engaging. They showed a “movie” , but it seemed to be from 1970. There was a nice family friendly easy hike we...More

Love this place for camping. The highway is nearby and you will hear it at night. That’s a little annoying but the beauty of the park makes up for that. There are pay showers and flush toilets. The facilities are usually pretty clean but I’ve...More

Opened a few years back, the new museum offers a lot of interpretive displays on the Donner Summit, road, rails, the tragic Donner Party. There are also hiking trails to the lake, and just enjoying the fresh air at this 7000-foot level is refreshing.

Depends on the weather and your ability to walk on uneven surfaces. Usually you can park near the lake, right off the highway.
