About
After residing in Paso Robles for a decade, Coy and Sarah Barnes turned their passion for wine, entertaining, and the rural countryside into a thriving little tour company called “The Wine Wrangler”. The Wine Wrangler was created on August 3, 2004 as Paso Robles’ first, authentic wine tour company. Within a year the couple wanted to create an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the Paso Robles wine tasting experience throughout the year, in the comfort of their own homes. They created the first and only wine club featuring Paso Robles wines and took their family business to whole new level. Coy, an educator and winemaker, grows his own zinfandel, cabernet sauvignon, and syrah on the family’s property in Paso Robles. When he’s not escorting visitors through the wine country, he’ll be rustling up wines from some of his favorite Paso Robles wineries and sharing them with the world through his Paso Robles Wine Club. Our greatest pleasure is to help people from out of the area to discover the diversity and finesse of Paso Robles wines. Coy & Sarah Barnes

We did the 5 hour tour with Paulie yesterday and all we can say is AMAZING. Paulie was so knowledgeable about the Paso Robles wine region. He talked about the history of the region, the wineries, the types of wine, the weather, etc, so much I would never have known. We loved all the information he gave us. He also picked out some amazing wineries for us to visit, Eberle, Glunz and Pear Valley. His choices couldn’t have been better. We cannot wait to do another wine tour with Wine Wrangler and hopefully Paulie.

Our time with Wine Wrangler was excellent. Our guide Tony was amazing. He called the day before to discuss preferences and then planned the perfect afternoon. He was incredibly personable and knowledgeable. More so than that he knew everyone and everyone knew him wherever we went. I can’t recommend this enough.

We had a tour with Keith and Wine Wrangler. He took us to beautiful wineries and we had a wonderful time with him. He listened to our preferences and knew just where to take us for wine tasting. A great experience! Can’t wait to return!

The J. Patrick House in Cambria helped my husband and I book a wine tour for our 21st anniversary, the Wine Wrangler Tour , it was wonderful!Coy our driver picked us up at the doorstep of our B & B promptly at 10:00a.m. just as they said they would. This being the Wine Festival Weekend I expected them to be very full but in fact because many of the wineries were having special events and goings ons many people chose to venture out on their own as not to have time restraints. This worked out perfect for us, and one other very nice couple. We were shown a wonderful time when Coy took us to many of the wineries we had selected as well as some up and coming wineries, let's not forget the winery that pairs all of their wines with chocolates. This was a real treat! Coy was very knowledgeable about where the vineyards were located , the making of wines, and the Paso Robles and Cambria areas. He treated us like royality, and got us back to our B & B safely about 6:00 p.m. The tour also included a nice lunch, crossaint sandwiches, salad, fruit, and dessert. We had taken a different wine tour last year but it wasn't quite as personnal. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in wine tasting in these areas.

If you are happily wine tasting in Paso Robles, plan to take a day to drive over the rolling hills that drop down into the Pacific Ocean. Travel up the stunning coastline to San Simeon, visit the comprehensive newly-built, massive visitor center before winding up into the hills studded with wild zebras until you arrive at Hearst Castle. No matter how many castles and palaces you've seen in Europe, you'll still be knocked out by the beauty of Hearst Castle. seeing the swimming pols alone would be worth the price of admission. The breathtaking Roman outdoor pool is beyond compare. Imagine yourself there sunning in a lounge chair, tropical drink in hand in the bright sun and getting ready to take the plunge into cool water with a glamorous 1930's movie star (like Charlie Chaplin, Carole Lombard, Clarke Gable, Douglas Fairbanks, etc.). How I would've loved to have been there as a guest back in those days of old. It is fascinating to hear so many stories of that magical place while on tour of the castle and the grounds and gardens. You will be dazzled by the massive, intricately woven Persian carpets. The beautifully carved bedposts in some rooms are meant to be admired. Every detail all around you is meant to thrill, to take your breath away with admiration. You must, at least once in your life, visit the incomparable Hearst Castle that floats on a cloud perched over the blue Pacific.

I can't say I've ever been so frustrated with something that should have only been fun! We signed up for the morning balloon ride followed by a wine tour. My frustration started with the cancellation of the balloon ride. Wine wrangler never called us to cancel, so when we called them to find out what was going on, they apologized and said they'd make it up to us. well, their version of 'making it up' was to charge us double-the-price for the wine tour!! Yes, seriously. Then, they wouldn't refund our credit cards (which were of course pre-authorized and charged) for the difference. Their owner, Coy Barnes, doesn't return phone calls, and his staff either won't or aren't empowered to help. I highly recommend you find another tour for wine tasting...this one isn't worth it.

Do not go with Mike. I expected this tour to practice the minimum Covid safety practices of requiring passengers to wear a mask in the van - but even our tour guide, Mike, was not wearing a mask! Also, they booked us as one group at every winery, so instead of allowing separate parties on the same tour to enjoy the experience separately we were forced to hangout and sit next to the strangers on our tour for hours while sipping wine. If one of these fellow passengers had Covid I certainly would have it by now. And, we did not get any wine knowledge from this tour. Mike didn’t speak a word all day. Even the other passengers, who I didn’t care for, remarked on how odd it was we didn’t learn anything from the tastings. In fact, Mike hadn’t even been to any of the four wineries we went to! I think you would be better off Ubering between wineries rather than doing this tour.

We booked our hearst castle tour from a recommendation from the morgan hotel 6 weeks in advance. The total cost for 3 adults and one child being $426. We were driving down from San Francisco on route 1 and passed by a large contingent of people gathered in what looked to be a park area so we pulled over to see what was going on! Much to our surprise it was the elephant seal park which we had no idea it would be the exact one we would see the following day. Anyway, after checking into our room the girl at the front desk told us to go down the road about 4-5 miles to a little town called cambria and there were places to eat etc. We went and it was indeed a great little town. The next day Hearst castle was indeed a GREAT place to see but as I looked at the price on the ticket stub it said $22 for a adult and my child was $12 I think. Anyway, adding that up that came to $78 !! Our driver picked us up and took us to the pier and gave us a 6-8in sub sandwich and a bottle of water each for lunch then took us to the exact same 2 places we had been the prior day for FREE !!! My point is, if you have a car, do it all yourself and it will cost you about $120 for 4 people with a MUCH better lunch not the $426 it cost me and my family. Heart castle $78..Lunch at even $10 each $40...elephant seals..FREE..Visit cambria..FREE...I feel I gave $300 away for nothing..called the winery and they said there was nothing they could do. You live and learn but maybe I can help some others !!

We had the 3 hour afternoon tour with our wonderful guide Paulie, a true gentleman that knows the history of the region and some wonderful wineries too!

His tour is filled with colorful stories of how wine making came into prominence in Paso as well as some great stories about the wineries and their founders that we visited. He also took advantage of the surrounds and gave us a glorious sunset view!

I highly recommend Wine Wrangler and asking for Paulie as well!
