- Sandra N2 contributionsGreat Wine Tasting ExperienceOn our way back to Arizona after visiting the Hearst Castle on Halloween, we did a quick stop at Tobin James which turned into a two hour tour! We loved the ambiance so much we decided to do a tasting. Unfortunately, we're sad to say we didn't get our server's name, but she was awesome and dressed as a TJ server lol!! All the staff was so welcoming and nice and most importantly we really liked the wine and are now members! Tobin James is a must stop when in Paso Robles. Also, a shout out to Ione, I hope Mr. and Mrs. Silver like the cake!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 November 2023
- jmpgfotoLancaster, California6 contributionsMost vibrant and FUN tasting room ever! The MOST FUN tasting room we've ever been to and we've been to a lot. Very popular and a little noisy BUT the servers/baristas are wonderful, they take time to explain each wine so good for newbies. For those of us with more experience it's still a fun place with some nice wines. Very enjoyable, beautiful building and nice gift shop in the large tasting room. Plenty of parking, easy access from highway and we will be returning again soon!Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 4 March 2024
- Sarah P1 contributionGreat Wine & Great Company!I love visiting Tobin James' tasting room for its welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. The tastings are always well-organized, with knowledgeable pourers who enhance the experience. The setting is relaxed and enjoyable, making it a great place to spend an afternoon. Overall, the tasting room adds a special touch to the already fantastic wine.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 August 2024

- Kcal22California1 contributionSolo tastingI stopped by on my way through town and enjoyed a solo tasting. It was a wonderful experience, the staff were very nice and interactive. I was by myself and Justin made sure to engage with me. He told me the background story of how the winery started which was amazing! I loved that I could hangout at any of the 3 tasting areas, or even outside on the patio. This winery is so relaxing, I’ll be stopping any time I’m in town.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 25 August 2024

Tobin James Cellars is always a treat to visit. We've been members of their wine club for over a decade and always enjoy visiting the tasting room. The servers are raconteurs and pour a wide variety of the Tobin James wines. The wines are full bodied and very California.

Tobin James Cellars is a great place to sample some of the best wines. We think so much we named our son Tobin James, really! We visited the winery with our two boys and got to meet up with Tobin and introduce him to our 11 year old Tobin James. Tobin is A first class guy that has worked hard to create some of the best wines around and made a fun place to taste their wine for free. They even have video games our boys played while we did a few taste tests. The staff is super friendly and extremely accommodating. We enjoyed our visit. This is a must stop if you are even close to the area.

We really appreciate your fine review and five stars. Thank you for your support of our winery for all these years! That is so great that you named your son Tobin James and that your Tobin met his awesome namesake, my partner, Tobin James! Sure hope to see you "back home" here at our Tasting Room soon. Cheers!

We are wine members, and always enjoy our tasting here. We felt the indoor tasting wasn"t quite spaced well enough for our comfort during Covid--a challenge since they are so popular. (They do take temperatures as people enter) Nice wine, friendly people.

We reserved a tasting at this winery and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our server was very nice and was very knowledgeable about this wines that she served us. There is a nice selection of both whites and reds, and many of the wines are blends of some interesting grape varieties. We came away with a few bottles to take home. We recommend the winery for a tasting in Paso Robles, although the winery is quite a ways out of town to the east on Highway 46.

Tobin James was our favorite winery we visited today. We would give six stars if we could! We had the tremendous good fortune of having Chris as our server who is also a certified sommelier. We love this winery! For $20 you can receive 7 or 8 generous pours of delicious wines. And they will discount your wine tasting fee for every dollar you purchase in wine. Our group loved the wine and the price points. The 4 of us had no problems spending $150 making the wine tasting free! And, they even gave us a 10% discount. Finally we left knowing a lot more about wines in the region thanks to Our amazing sommelier, Chris. Can’t recommend this winery high,y enough!

We’ve been coming to Tobin James for years and have always loved the wine, staff, and atmosphere. They have everything from your daily drinker, our go to is the Midnight Magic Petite Sirah and the Sundance Sauvignon Blanc, to a nice occasion wine with Private Stash or the 5. They have some of the most knowledgeable staff members in the area and a great selection for you to choose from for your tasting to be customized to your palate. Their tasting fee is only $20 and is waived with a bottle purchase. I highly recommend stopping by for a laidback enjoyable wine tasting experience and get a look into where the Paso region started.

My wife and I had a great time at Tobin James. Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted and welcomed in by Gaetano. Super nice guy and very knowledgeable on his wines. Great convo with Gaetano and he was not trying to push purchasing bottles of wines... We ended up purchasing a few, since G was able to narrow down some great wines for us. He even recommended a great Enchilada festival that was happening locally. Lively crowd while we were, which we actually prefer. We will definitely be back. Thanks G!

We went to this place this weekend because they advertised covid safe. This is FAR from the truth. They hosted tasting that was in one small area, shoulder to shoulder, no masking or distancing. A real party atmosphere that I'm sure appeals to some but is a super spreader event, 8 hours a day, every day. When we asked if we could do a distanced tasting they refused, stating that "this is where we are standing, so this is where the wine is". If you value you health and given the severity of this disease, perhaps even your life, avoid this place until you are vaccinated.

Wow! I was so surprised to see your review. We are complimented over and over by so many of our guests commenting how well we are handling Covid safety protocols. We are truly concerned for the safety of our guests and for our Tobin James team. All tastings are outdoors on our covered patio area. Each guest has their temperature taken at our check in desk and masks must be worn except when they are tasting. We sanitize rigorously between guests, and masks must be worn to enter our building to purchase wines, deli case snacks or to use our restrooms . From our check in desk, it may appear that we are more crowded than we actually are since the tables are in a straight line.

I have been a fan of this winery for about 20 years. Their wines are superb, by any measure. Their Merlot is to die for. They also have a fantastic wine club that offers huge discounts on their shipments twice a year, e.g., one was around $179 for wine that if purchased individually would be about $630. The only thing I would say negative is that their wines are a bit pricey overall if purchased by the bottle, but that is a matter of opinion. The staff is extraordinary and they have an encyclopedic knowledge of their products. Most helpful.

Walking into the tasting room you feel like you're walking into someone (Tobin James' home). A warm welcome is the perfect way to start your experience. Wine's of coarse are exceptional, but the feeling of being apart of something bigger is comforting. Toby and Ermie might be there welcoming everyone. Within seconds you know you have friends for life. You will become a part of the James gang family for life.

So your only problem with this place is their Covid procedures? What about the wine, the atmosphere, etc.? When I have a negative review, I try to say something positive so it doesn't look like some personal anger issue ... I try to be balanced and give credit where it's due. Is there ANYTHING good about the place? We intend to go there in October. Thank you

Some people just love to complain?
I had the best tasting, and it looked like everyone was having a great time when we were there.
Go and enjoy yourself!

Thank you for your question. We do love all of our furry friends, but we only can make exceptions for service dogs. We do have a large lawn area and a beautiful outdoor grotto to enjoy wine while you're with your pet.

We will be visiting SoCal with our daughter who will be 19 yrs old at the time of the visit. My husband and I would like to do a wine tasting in Paso. We are not sure what the protocol would be for this as daughter will not be of legal drinking age. Of course we know she could not be served wine, but could she even enter the tasting room area with us? Please advise. Thank You.
Written 14 April 2019
Yes, she is welcome in the tasting room. We serve a sparkling non-alcohol grape juice.

We do have several nice areas outside to picnic if the weather is good. If you don't have your own picnic with you, we sell salami, olives, breadsticks, cheeses, soft drinks, chocolate, candies and caramel corn.
