- janiceburchTempleton, California90 contributionsIf you want a marvelous expience, Daou is the place to go.This is a fabulous tasting room. It's on the higher end price-wise for tasting but the location, views, staff and of course the wine make it all worth it. This is one to add to the list of wineries to visit on a trip to Paso Robles.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 March 2024

I went with a group and we had a wonderful time!! Make sure you take pictures under the DAOU Life is Beautiful. We were seated and the view are outstanding. Our sommelier was excellent in explaining the different wines. The whole experience was outstanding. We stayed there 2-3 hours.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 26 May 2024
- Janet MCordova, Tennessee816 contributionsBeautiful Views from Tasting RoomThe vineyards stand alone at an elevation of 2,200 feet on Daou Mountain. This winery is so busy, you have to park your car and take a shuttle bus up to the tasting room. The views are stunning from the tasting room across the rest of the Paso Robles. But take your wallet if you decide to visit here. A wine tasting flight of 5 wines will cost $50.00 per person (no waiver with a purchase). We had two (2) wine tastings and ordered a Cheese & Charcuterie plate ($50.00) for a total of $150.00. We did not buy any bottles of wine.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 July 2024
- Yvonne S3 contributionsWho needs Italy?!What a wonderful view, winery, restaurant, and experience!! The wines are robust and flavourful. The pizza tastes like it's right out of Italy and the service is efficient, friendly and engaging. It's a little pricey but far less expensive than a trip to Italy.Visited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 September 2024

This review is for our March 2019 visit (yes a bit late). We visited during Zinfandel weekend. We were quite shocked by the new policy of not being able to purchase wines by the glass. To be fair, you can still purchase by the glass if you are a member of their wine club, so this policy has nothing to do with waste and everything to do with how popular and busy Daou has become. We felt that this put the tasting room staff in a VERY awkward position having to tell guests that they can only buy bottles of wine. I have never heard of or visited a winery anywhere that had a policy like this. Also the iconic fountain was moved over to the members only area of the grounds and was not running. Why? Another disappointment was they no longer will be selling their Grenache Blanc (the ultimate spicy food wine).
So why did I still give a "Very good" rating? We made a reservation a few weeks before and they even let us move to a bigger table with a better view after we arrived. We let our wine attendant know how we felt about the new "by the glass" policy. She was very understanding. We were fine with ordering bottles of wine, and were planning to anyway, because there were four of us. The issue is if one of us wanted to try something on our own, we couldn't. We have already had tastings several times in the past, so were were not interested, especially at the $40 price point which is one of the highest in Paso.
What saved the day was the tasting room manager, Oscar. He apologized for the new policy and we talked with him for a while. I am not going to tell you what he did for us, because quite frankly I don't want anyone to expect the same accommodations he was willing to give us. We declined and what he did next, we are forever grateful for. Again, I am not going to give details, but a good attitude and a love for wine will go a long way, even in the face of a ridiculous policy. We will return again in 2020, during Zinfandel weekend, and look forward to the amazing white wine (yes white) and the views. Here's to hoping Daniel and Georges will come to their senses and abolish this crazy policy. There has to be a better way to accomplish what they intending.
P.S. Chemin de fleurs is still one of my all time favorite white wines.

We totally enjoyed the wine tasting experience at Daou Winery. This is the top wine tasting venue in Paso Robles, so reservation is hard to get but a must even if you just come to purchase a bottle of wine.
Just as the vineyard has claimed, the venue is on top of the highest hill in Paso Robles and the view is spectacular. With a glass of good wine on hand and an amazing view of the vineyard, it’s the best way to spend a late morning.
The wine tasting includes 5 separate pours starting from a light Pinot noir to a French red blend and finished with the Cab estate wine. I like the French red blend the best as it’s smooth and not overly tannin.
Our server was amazing and very knowledgeable. We had a good education on wines. I just learned that in order to qualify as estate wine, not only the wines have to be produced and grown in the property but the storage has to be on the same property as well.
The costs of the wine tasting is a bit pricy but it’s worth it. You come this far for wine tasting, you should go for only the best.
As the summer is quite hot here, you should come in the morning to beat the heat.

The views from the top of the hill are fantastic. You ca see for miles. They have a nice tasting room but the best part of the place is the restaurant and food/wine available (we will partake next visit). Staff was very friendly, more so than many Napa wineries, and were glad to offer advice and assistance.
This is an afternoon trip and one should arrange for transportation to get home on the winding roads after the wine.

With many wine tasting experiences in our travel history throughout many states, I have to say that DAOU is now THEE winery that has set the bar not just high, but I’m guessing unreachable! This place is phenomenal on all accounts. I love a great patio as much as the next guy, but this setting is beyond epic. It was our first stop of the day and we didn’t want to leave. Ever. After all the ooh-ing and aaah-ing over the view and garden, we also very much enjoyed their wine. We purchased 3 bottles of their estate cab which was amazing. Our pourer was super friendly, and never gave off a stuffy vibe at all. Yes, the tasting fee is on the high side, but no different than any other high end winery and you should just know that before you come in. Plan to make reservations a couple of weeks in advance. This is a winery we will absolutely come back to each and every time we’re in the area.

It was a very pleasant feel to be able ti visit the winery without reservation. We asked at front area if we could just drop in for a wine tasting experience and he said most likely. We parked down below at parking lot A and wait for shuttle that will pick us up. When we were picked up about 8 -10 min, we were surprised to get picked up in a really nice Limo type huge van. It felt very comforting and A/C equipped.
After dropped off on front door, the view looked spectacular 360 degrees of valley and winery’s view.
So far everything was going well. After we checked in at front desk they greeted with a Rosé DAOU tasting and set us at a very nice and ambient table with a umbrella shade.
The scenery looked awesome and very nicely spread out . They really take care of their grounds. Perfect grounds.
Our Host Wesley Andrews greeted us and asked if it was our first time, of course we said and was very delighted that we came from Napa county are. He gave us a little run down on winery and he is very knowledgeable of wines. He showed us the options of food and wine and becoming a Member after we asked.
We order some food, the cheese platter, beat salad and a kofta meal, perhaps it was a bit too much but we did not have breakfast. We were do surprised with the taste and presentation of plates and even Naan bread on cheese platter. The plates had a middle easter fusion and it was a very good combination of tastes on dishes. We had 6 tastings, we did not know our tastings had six. It was perfect for our big meal. We walked all grounds and all hosts were very pleasant as we walked grounds and took lots of pictures. Some even offer to take our pictures. Which was very nice because my selfies of us were not as nice.
Anyway I won’t make it any longer and definitely will come back again and visit Wesley Andrews our Host.

First of all, a reservation is a must. Without one, you might not get in to their tasting.
Interestingly, their price for food is over-the-top. One sandwich was $56!!
Nonetheless, I still like their cabernet sauvignon. Good wine for the price when purchased at a store - not sure what their prices are at the winery as we didn't stay due to not having a reservation.

DAOU Vineyards was THE most beautiful Vineyard we visited while on our 32 day tour of California. The landscape is top- notch and the views (and photo ops!) are stunning. Unfortunately, our scheduled wine tasting was not as enjoyable an experience as others on our itinerary. I appreciate when there is a bit of food served with our wines.... not a large amount by any means.... but just something to pair with the wines that complement each other. Also, I feel the person leading the tasting was not as well educated on the wines as others we have experienced. The tasting went very quickly and there wasn't much effort to give details about DAOU and it's wines. A bit of improvement could highly enhance wine tastings in this spectacular setting

The Daou Vineyard estate is just a 20 minutes’ drive west from downtown Paso Robles. Situated on a hilltop, this picturesque winery with its Italian Style facade has amazing views for miles around. Not only do they have an inside tasting room, but offer tastings, pairings & picnics on extensive outside grounds.
We chose to sit outside on the peaceful grounds under a large umbrella, while our waitress presented various wines for our approval, and with great enthusiasm told us about the interesting French Lebanese history of the Daou brothers.
Can recommend a couple of reds, the Seventeen forty was very smooth, as was the 2018 Eye of the falcon.
Just sitting in the sun on a pleasant fall afternoon drinking red wine with friends, and admiring the incredible views of the surrounding countryside, was pure magic.
We even tried the onyx mezze charcuterie, while waiting for our lunch to arrive.
When leaving our hostess took us up to the top of the belltower, to admire the 360’ view of the surrounding countryside.
Thank you Daou for your hospitality.
TIP: When visiting Paso Robles or any wineries on the central coast. Suggest coming in off the pacific coast highway as that is a very picturesque drive.

Wow! Beautiful setting on top of a mountain and lucky enough to arrive for 11am experience. We received a table for 2 on the cliffside facing south, perfect weather, knowledgeable woman "Billy" was great explaining the product/pairings with foods/personal thoughts. Ordered tableside lunch and did not leave until 1:00pm. Of course, purchased 3 bottles to waive the tasting fee but well worth it. A must see when visiting Paso Robles.

We were there on 11/22. We had 1 individual tasting. My wife does not drink so asked if they can get her warm water with a slice of lime. Response - we do not serve warm water!!! Shocking as they have a full restaurant with an overpriced menu.
Pours - the guy was literally pouring wine in a glass that was difficult to make out if there was wine in the glass! Right next to our table there were generous pours.
Great wines but the worst experience at a winery for us.

Does Uber pick up at the winery without too long of a wait? And is there enough Verizon or Sprint cell coverage to hail an Uber without booking a driver for the day?

We did while there. On another occasion we found it cheaper to just rent an Uber for the day and vineyard hop.

Hello I was wondering as I am not an avid or even knowledgeable wine taster, is it possible to visit grounds to just enjoy the views? I am in remission and on meds and not yet ready to mix with any type of liquor unless maybe something mild/sweet? I find nature and scenery so healing and have always wanted to visit a vineyard. Heading to Paso Robles this weekend to see “Field of lights” and saw the beautiful pictures of this vineyard. Any info appreciated. Thank you.
