Beautiful views and a very nice trails. Facilities are good. Family friendly hiking trails. Daily parking needs to be paid for day use.

I'm not sure if others are aware but we went for roughly a week in June and hardly left the cabin. This place should be called fly mountain. Immediately after stepping out of the car we were swarmed by tons of flies just to enter our cabin which was on the mountain but not at the camp ground. We then went to the state park same issue. Insect repellent did not help. We then went to the county park. Even more flies. We literally sprint everytime we exit the vehicle due to the amount of attacking flies. We went in June maybe its different other times of the year but I regret going. Sincerely a backpacker, trail runner, outdoors guy.

I had only one day to visit the park, didn't realize that the observatory had limited hours and the gates were locked at 4:30pm when I arrived. The state park has camping, some hikes and a large parking area with a view point that looked west. After driving around to see the state park facilities, I watched with about a half dozen others the sunset on Presidents' day 2020. What I saw was a bright light glowing through very polluted air. I could kind of make out the ocean. Perhaps it's Northern California snobbishness ;), but this has always been my beef with Socal. The air quality is horrible. So while I'm sure this may have a nice view after a rain storm, I'm not sure it is worth the drive otherwise.

Up up the switch back an adventure in its self. We reached the observatory early to buy tkts for the tour. Only to find it had been cancelled. Not a real big deal as the reception center is very interesting then you walk to the dome and look through the glass to see the active area instead of going onto it. We read all the history and learned basically what we would have heard on the tour. The pine forests are lovely the air is cool and clean study the web site for all visiting info

We enjoyed hiking this mountain. It can get pretty chilly with elevation. We visited in December when it can be cold, so pack warmly. The hikes are pretty and enjoyable.
