This small zen temple is very close to the Dazaiful Tenmangu Shrine. I've wanted to visit for a while with its famed garden. It has a front rock garden which is average, an altar area which is unispiring and mediocre, and the rear garden, which...More

When in Dafaizu this is one of the reasons why you visit the place. Its located right before the national museum and the nearby shrine. Got nice architecture and history

Komyozenji is a small temple near Dazaifu Tenmangu. Since it is not on a tourist street, there are much less people to visit it than Tenmangu. The entrance is just $2, which is quite moderate in Japan. The temple itself is small, but its garden...More

Komyozenji Garden is one of the best Japanese gardens in the Fukuoka area. Listed in "Hidden Gardens of Japan" THE photo essay and reference for finding unspoiled gardens in Japan (minus the tour bus mobs) available on Amazon US and Amazon Japan

Most people visit Dazaifu for the Tenmangu. I strongly recommend visiting this temple on the way back to the train station. It's only 5 minutes away from the station. This temple is very quiet compared to Tenmangu, and offers peace and serenity from the crowds...More

Inside this temple, you can see the beautiful garden with flowers. The architecture is similar to Ginkaku, Hiunkaku and Kinkaku in Kyoto. There is a good view of sea from the small hill behind the temple.

This is a small temple with a beautiful garden around it. There is a small entrance fee and since we have paid it, might as well spend a little longer time in it. Behind the temple, there is this beautiful garden facing the hill. We...More

If you decide to go to Dazaifu because you heard of the famous Tenmangū-Shrine there, you should take some time to pay a visit to the Kōmyō-Zen-Temple (Kōmyōzen-ji, mountain name Jingozan) nearby. This temple was founded by Tetsugyū Enshin (Rinzai Zen-School) in 1273. Until the...More

This place is poorly marked. We can't find it after walking in and out of Temangu Shrine. Suggest keep your eyes and ears peeled while walking.

A lot of plantation, tree with quite old ages standing both sides of road, plums, and other iconic plantation. But you need to check carefully about the direction signs, which by and large not clearly located.
