This is a beautiful place. The garden is small, but it is very much worth it. My husband and I were looking for somewhere inexpensive and near to home to enjoy a sunny winter day when we found this place. The park is actually in a neighborhood setting, and there is a small nearby parking lot, a closer disabled lot, and plenty of neighborhood streets to park on, as well. It is densely planted, so it easily feels very private when following the many narrow pathways. There are several covered shelters with ample seating and nice views overlooking a creek down below. There are many small laybys with rocks large enough for a couple to sit on without crowding other guests on the path. In the middle is an attractive pond with a small waterfall, koi, and a family of turtles. It is a very easy circuitous walk for nearly anyone. Minus physical distancing and tables, under "normal" conditions, I could see having brought a lunch to eat while under shelter or sitting on one of the few benches. I thoroughly enjoyed this garden and will make it a regular part of our peaceful outdoor beauty spots.…

It is just astonishing to find a Japanese garden of this caliber in a modest town like Hayward. The design, architecture, plants and pond are worthy of San Francisco. Plus, admission is free. This is a genuine East Bay Gem.
