Glad we went
Nov 2019
Living in SD for 19 years, and this was the first time we walked the bridge! Things to know, free parking lot right up the street - it's a hill but not bad (and there's a porta potty). It's a bit of a walk to the actual lake itself though. If you want to fish the lake or sit on the embankment, you need to drive around the other end of the lake - and it's not close (20 min drive) from the bridge. Though we enjoyed the new experience of walking the bridge, next time, we will go to the other side of the lake to walk the lake itself (which looked nice). Otherwise, make for an easy quick hike and a new experience.

Neat bridge, bad directions
Jun 2019
Would never have found this place without the directions of the other reviewers. Lake is partially there. Mostly in the west side. There is a very deceptive sign at the end of the bridge to go about 1 mile to “the old homestead “. No such place was seen after a 1.5 mile walk-in kind of a sketchy place. Would not recommend.

Enjoyable bridge to cross
Apr 2019 • Solo
As of this writing San Diego just had recording breaking rain late 2018 and early 2019 so it’s a great time to visit the Lake Hodges Pedestrian Bridge as Lake Hodges is now filled with water. The bridge itself is a beautiful structure to behold and a joy to cross whether on foot or on a bicycle. It is well constructed and sturdy. It takes about 3-4 mins to cross the bridge (all 990 feet) in a unhurried and leisurely pace. You get a different view of Lake Hodges and the surrounding hills and terrain at different point on the bridge. Plenty of great photo opportunities. There were benches in the middle of the bridge where you can sit and enjoy the view of the lake. It is also a great way to observe and enjoy the wildlife (ducks, swarms, hawks etc) in the lake and surroundings. To get to the bridge, exit West Bernardo Drive Exit from I15 and go west. Within a quarter mile look for a right turn to San Dieguito River Park which has a unpaved/gravel parking lot. You can park there and it’s a short walk (about a quarter mile) to the bridge.

Does the Pedestrian Bridge Cross Over Water?
Apr 2018
We ( a couple) decided to check out the pedestrian bridge because it sounded cool...and we were anxious to see the span over the lake. We got there mid April....and the question is ....what lake? I guess the best time of year to go is in the rainy season.

A very worthwhile stop
Oct 2018 • Couples
Exit 26 off of I-15. The shortest walk to get on to the suspension bridge is from a gravel parking lot off W Bernardo Drive. Down hill to the bridge, not too strenuous going back up. There is some informational signage about the history of the bridge on the opposite end. We enjoyed this as a morning walk on our way in to San Diego from Escondido. The lake was completely dry though. We did see a few birds.

What a Beautiful Walkway
Jul 2018 • Family
We love to walk and for many years as we would drive south on Interstate 15, would promise ourselves to one day cross the bridge. Well, we finally did so last week. Although with the drought here in California robbing Lake Hodges's of most of its water, the hike across the bridge was wonderful. Then, continuing on to the end of the trail was quiet and very pleasant. We can check this off our bucket list and will be walking here again very soon.

Easy walking bridge
May 2018 • Couples
The Lake Hodges walking bridge is along a great hiking or biking trail along Lake Hodges. There was no water in the lake at this end at this time of year, but it was a lovely walk just the same.

A Nice View and Hike
Oct 2017 • Family
This is a nice visit to access a lot of good trails for either mountain biking or hiking. Depending on the recent rainfall, the area may be flowing or very dry. There is parking on the street that requires a short walk. It is immediately off the I-15 freeway at W. Bernardo Drive Exit. If followed, you can access Felicita Creek as well as many other points of interest such as the San Dieguito River Park and Bernardo Bay Trails. There are several signs that discuss local foliage and local animals. The views can be awesome depending on which trails you take.
