Beautiful lake. So many lovely views. Yes, it's not Lake Ohrid, but it's still nice. Not much to do, perhaps, except eat and look at the lake. It was too early in the year for swimming when I visited, but had the advantage of not being too crowded.

My favorite part of going to Dojran was the lake,
that was full of fish and the lake is also great for your skin (especially in August) I prefer going to Star Dojran because in Nov Dojran there isn't any beaches or absolutely anything. The beaches were pretty clean most of the times but for some parts of the lake there was just a whole gang of bottles showed up in one corner just sitting there ruining the lake and the aesthetic vibes it gives off, if maybe the government payed more attention the lake would have been perfect, however I can't complain really much since I really liked it there! There were some people reviewing this place who have probably never been to any lake and are just criticasing the lake for properties that every lake has, most of them are seeing a lake for the first time in their life and are thinking it's some sort of huge sea. It's really hot in August, places are extremely affordable if you're looking for staying 1 or 2 weeks, there are alot of mosquitos tho but I kinda like them since it just gives the place a more lively feeling but they can be annoying sometimes. Overall this place is great!

I would recommend it just for walking and sitting on the sun. Otherwise the lake is terrible, very dirty and with a lot of grass inside. If you stay in Dojran I would recommend swimming in a pool. There are 3 or more pools with clean water.

I'm just back from my 8th or 9th visit to the area. I normally visit with the Salonika Campaign Society, but other battlefield walking tours are arranged through companies such as Battle Honours and The Cultural Experience.
The two commercial companies will normally cover the key points where British troops served in the Great War, while the SCS group will take part in the annual commemorations of the end of the war in that region marked by the Bulgarian Armistice at the end of September 1918. The SCS group are likely to strike out into new territory, as many will be repeat visitors, and therefore can miss some locations although with notice all tours will try to meet specific requests. All will include a walk up to "The Devil's Eye", the highest point on the British sector. The scenery is magnificent, and well worth while on its own.
There are really no easy walks and temperatures can approach 30 degrees, which can be challenging, and suitable clothing and footwear makes sense. This year our experience was enhanced by seeing so many saffron crocuses growing wild at the side of tracks.
Doiran itself is small, with only a very small number of hotels. The Romantique is best placed with a terrace almost onto the lake where it is ideal to settle down with a cooling beer after a walk. Recently it has been partly booked by police forces providing some EU border security. Down by the border with Greece, the Hit Hotel and Casino is of a similar standard, but a fair lakeside walk is required to Doiran itself and to the best restaurant the Fuk-Tak. Groups staying at the Hit are normally taken there by their minibus.
Food in Northern Macedonia is always excellent, and groups will enjoy both fish meals, and almost certainly suckling pig. The latter has to be pre ordered and is not realistic for small family groups.
For individuals wanting to walk the battlefields, there are local guides, and they are best contacted through groups like the SCS. Walking solo in a hot climate over awkward terrain is not wise.
I love the place, and will be back.

The lake isn’t huge but reasonably sized and located in a wide, open area on the Macedonian/Bulgarian border. There is a backdrop of mountains all around and the lake has many areas of reed beds. It’s generally an attractive setting without being overly special. The town of Star Dojran, close to the border, is something of a resort with beaches, lake promenade and other facilities. It’s all a bit run down but has a certain charm nonetheless. It’s the sort of place where you could maybe spend an afternoon for a picnic lunch and a couple of hours sitting in the sun but that’s about it.

When I was listening Macedonians talking about Dorjan lake I thought it was a Monden place. On our way to Greece we visited Dorjan lake. Very small lake, water is very dirty. They are trying to make it modern with swimming pools and restaurants, but everything is very dirty, overcrowded and there is no parking place during the season.

Smallest lake out of the 3 (Ohrid, Prespa, Dojran). Even though they are trying to revitalize the place, the water is still dirty and I did not get into it, however, for some reason, it is still charming. They have in Dojran a promenade to walk in the evening, at least 1 very good restaurant and a lot of groceries. Nice place to experience something different than very crowdy Ohrid. Also, the benefit is the boarder to Greece w/o crowds from main road.

Positive: the climate, prices, friendly people (locals), algae in the lake, food
Negative: Crowded beaches - what was done several years ago is not maintained well., not so friendly staff in the restaurants, the prices for accommodation are high taken the conditions, no alternative activities and destinations nearby
