My wife and I visited when our river cruise boat docked in Andernach. It was fairly late in the day, so we didn't have too much time to explore in daylight. What we did see of the gates and the city wall was impressive though....More

but you may miss them as they are now slap bang in the middle of busy modern road ways. watch out for traffic when you take photo's. worth a visit, but probably need a Guide to help point these out and give a bit history...More

Being my husbands home town, I was hoping to like this area...but instead, I loved it! Every step you take is dripping in history...an amazing place and amazing people!

If you are traveling through this area of Germany, stopping to see this castle is definitely worth your time. Great views and a very well preserved site.

The "port of Koblenz", also "Burgpforte" (Castle gate), was built around 1200 with the aim to protect the Castle and was at that time the main entrance to the city, this port and Castle were destroyed by the French during the Palatine succession in 1689....More
