We were really looking forward to, what was advertised, as a 2-hour magical experience of Petra at night: we imagined listening to Bedouin music while admiring the centuries-old Treasury which was to be lit by hundreds of candles. This is not what a hefty 17 JOD pays for. Instead, you have literally hundreds of tourists piling into the relatively small space outside the Treasury. Not only does this process take about half an hour but the organisers actually let all of these tourists sit amongst the 'candles' (which are actually just little lights), so you can't even have the Petra-by-candle-light experience, let alone take a photo of it. I am convinced that the Insta photos which we see are actually taken by influencers who are asked to come to Petra by Night on non-tourist nights, without the tourist crowds, specifically in order to take 'magical' photos to entice tourists to come. On top of this, the musical performance barely lasts 20 minutes, and it is comprised of a mediocre flute performance followed by Bedouin music played from a sound system (not live music as promised). Then you listen to a factually inaccurate (and at times offensive) story about Petra. That is the end of the performance. Barely 30 minutes of entertainment out of the 2 hours which you were promised. You then have half an hour of 'free time', presumably to take in the surroundings and take photos, but you can't actually do that because the crowds are sitting amongst the 'candle' lights.

Worst tourist scam ever. Keep your money and run away. All 1 star comments since 2018 are telling the truth. It is just a scam Shame for a UNESCO Heritage site benefiting from donations

This is billed as something magical, almost mystical: candle-lit silence, a Bedouin shepherd’s flute, something to connect with what the Nabutian’s might have experienced… It is no such thing; just a cynical means of extracting 17JOD from you for the “privilege” of joining 200+ other people on an evening traipse to the Treasury, sitting (or trying to) on the rock strewn ground for 20mins or so of some rubbish flute and lute music played over a dodgy sound system and an unintentionally tragic “compère” telling you a made up story about Petra. If you want a paid-for evening work-out with the side-risk of a stampede thrown in, then go. Otherwise have a beer and a kebab and save yourself for the real thing in the daytime.

There is a true beauty in the warmth of light that hundreds of candles create along the path way to the Treasury but the mood was completely destroyed by the mad dash of way too many tourists eager to get prime position. The field of candles at the foot of the Treasury was spectacular for just moments before the oversized crowd packed in and obscured the view. This attraction was so very disappointing in its content and polish considering the spectacular venue and sizeable price. Unable to understand the presenter we left early which fortunately afforded us a peaceful and pretty walk out of the Siq.

This should be brilliant but it is absolute rubbish. Lacks any sort of imagination and technical input. A ridiculous and cynical money grab. There is literally no substance. One flute player followed by a recorded string instrument and accompanied by the most inane and banal speaker I have ever heard. Avoid.
