Ha'atafu Beach is our favorite place for snorkeling. We love the bright blue starfish and the clown fish which dance in and out of anemone. We have seen many many fish, stripes, dots, iridescent, blue, yellow. We like mid going to high tide. At low...More

The day we went was pretty rough, but still sheltered enough for a good swim and snorkel. Recommend taking the reef shoes, plenty of fish and marine life to see.

A good beach when the tide is going out. Safe for kids at low tide but high tide is a bit questionable. Great to snorkel and see so many different fish and coral. The huge brain coral is cool and the kids loved seeing Nemo...More

Scenic and referred to by many as the best beach on the island (featuring the presently top-rated Ha’atafu Resort and Blue Banana Resort) but don’t expect any postcard-perfect crescent of white sand and don’t expect to find luxury resorts. You can drive right up to...More

This is a public beach accessible via a 5min walk from the main Hihifo road. We caught a bus there and spend 3.5 hours under a tree with frequent snorkelling forays into the water. This was at low - mid tide. These is a shallow...More

Heilala where we stayed is situated here, very beautiful and safe swimming because of the reef. Lots of fish to see while snorkling, water temperature was really warm

Ha'atafu is only about 20 odd kilometers from Nukualofa but can take around 30/40 minutes to get there - not because of the roads as they are actually pretty good for the islands, but just due to the speed limits and a lot of cars...More

We took reef shoes but didn't really use them. Swimming is lovely especially at high tide, and the snorkelling was great. I'm not a surfer but this an option out past the reef. The water temperature is perfect - not too warm, so it's refreshing...More

Visited on a stunning day, a couple of whales playing off the beach. Water was clear and was a nice beach on Tongatapu, although quite remote.

There is a bus 6 days a week. Goes both ways. Get precise directions before you go. The bus will go straight along the main road and then you will need to walk a little. Times for buses are variable I suspect. Many of the... More
