An experience not to be missed.

Brilliant experience. Full of local history, could have spent all day there. There is also a cinema screen showing many interesting stories of the history of Ullapool.

Lovely Small Museum
Sep 2021
This is a lovely small museum house in a restored church building. The displays are well laid out and tell the story of the area which includes fishing and crofting. Ullapool Museum also contains genealogy records so you can search from your family history if they have links to the Lochbroom area. Unlike many larger museums Ullapool Museum has an activity area for children. Great place to visit.

We really enjoyed our little visit to the museum! It is so well laid out with plenty of info about the history of the area. The staff were so lovely and we were so impressed that the museum was run by volunteers. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

I don’t like Free Church psalm singing and while I appreciate it is an unique sound, it is not for me. The converted church shows the way the Free Church was and the music does provide context. Worth a look.

Small and informative

Right in the center of town, this is a small museum full of the history of the region. You likely won’t spend more than an hour in here but I certainly appreciated getting a better sense of Ullapool”s overall place in Scottish history.

I now know how big a Rig is.
Oct 2019
I enjoyed reading about the history of Ullapool. The museum is well set out and everything is well captioned.
There were some recollections from older Ullapool residents and one talked about two rigs of potatoes, two of clover, two of corn and one of cows. So he had 7 rigs. How much is a rig? The lady on reception looked it up and said it was 15 feet wide by 270 yards long. I've now seen references to 20 feet wide. We worked it out incorrectly at the time but it is about 0.28 acres and he had 7 so that was about 2 acres.
Great fun and helpful lady.

Excellent small museum
Sep 2019
This is one of the best small museums I’ve visited. It has clear, well explained displays that are housed in a restored church building with its own distinct history. For me, the icing on the cake was the reference section on the first floor which contains an astonishing amount of local information, all carefully collated and catalogued. The volunteers who must have spent many hours putting this wonderful resource together are to be congratulated. I understand the work is ongoing, which makes it even more impressive.

Very Interesting and Well Organised

The museum itself is well curated in a lovely old church, lots of information about the history of the town and its residents.

The reading and research section upstairs is absolutely amazing. I could spend days there reading letters, family trees etc. An excellent resource. A lot of work has gone into this.

Insightful
Jul 2019
The history of the church and it's adherents alone, was of interest. Those who worshipped there thrived, waxed and waned to the point, when it no longer stood as a place of worship. Some of this history is nicely preserved to this day. As for the building itself, it looks as solid as the day in which it was built. Housing the history of the peoples of Ullapool in bygone days, is a fantastic idea. The people may be gone, but their spirits live on in the form of story boards, recorded oral recollections of much older generations, archival material and of course the locals ( historians!) who volunteer their time at the museum, thus adding another informative dimension of history, to visitors from around the world who step into this little, but important time capsule
