we found it easy to park near the mirador on top and see the view and the small chapel . however the fort is in another part of nazare' and it would be a long walk and take quite some time. . alternatively one could park in town and take the funicular to go to Sitio on top and back and then walk to the fort . parking in town can be a challenge but we were lucky (we parked for lunch)

There is a bus service, search for schedules on "Rede Expresso", to the center of Nazaré, close to the market and near the beach. Within 10 minutes walk you use a local ralway, cable car that in less than five minutes takes you to the top. If you want within 10 minutes walk you can visit the place where McNamara surfed the 30 meter waves, and several restaurants and food. During summertime buses can be crowded.
