If you learn about the history of the village and the black madonna this is where you can come and see the actual statue.

Free admission to a really loveley church amazing that it was built in such a remote place. The church clock and bells are very good......there is often traditional music played live in the nearby town square.

Another nice church in Portugal but this one you can pay to go behind the scenes and see up close the "black Madonna" and some creepy prosthetic limbs. Who knew? Not your average church attractions.

Very nice old church right in the middle of the old town square. The ceramic frescoes and the altar are absolutely amazing. Parking is possible in the small street near the church with a bit of luck. Bring a good camera for the visit.

When in O Sitio, its worth stopping here. A well preserved old church on a huge open square. Inside, it is very ornately finished, and looks stately. There was an entrance fee to go upstairs, but we did not do that

As the hubby waited outside, I toured the church. For 1 Euro, you can tour "behind the scenes" parts of the church....in particular the upper Nave. Now I know that the priests see! Interesting collection of wax body parts that were given to the church...More

If your in the square in the upper village of Sitio take a few minutes to enter the church and marvel at the ornamentation. Like many in Portugal, lavish devotions have made the interior of this small church a feast for the eyes. It has...More

Inside this church is so ornate and even on busy days only a few tourists ventured in. It is worth taking the time to explore.
