We visited three monasteries- Great Meteora, Holy Trinity and Agios Nikolas. The latter was our favorite. It had a certain charm and was easy to picture monks living there. Holy Trinity we visited because of the James Bond movie, but there wasn't much to it....More

Closest of the 6 monasteries to Kastraki. Within walking distance if you have the time... seemed to be the least popular although I cannot imagine why, always only a few cars parked outside. One of my favorites. Loved the view over the vineyards down toward...More

This has what I thought were the most engaging experiences of the 4 monasteries I visited. The small chapel for the monks has an incredible and new (to me) collection of frescoes. I'm glad there were some postcards since I couldn't take photos, nor remember...More

This monastery is one of several in this incredible area. A must see. Be prepared to do some walking on cobblestone. Absolutely lovely.

This was the first monastery that we visited, and after we have visited 4 out of 6 monasteries in 2 days, we felt this one was the most authentic and beautiful
