This museum is in Idar, there is another one in Oberstein. Note these are two separate towns. The museum had a great collection of gems and fossils on 4 floors. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We stopped in here and were pleasantly surprised. Inexpensive to get in. Lots of history about the gem mines. Several gems and pictures of famous gems.

The whole family enjoyed this museum after a visit to the mine and the tour of the weiherschleife. Very interesting and informative and value for money. English audio guide available for extra 3 euro p.p. and photo-permit 2 euro per family.
