Interesting little museum
Sep 2019
This free museum is not without its charm, though sadly lacking in some investment to improve the displays and general state of the buildings. Most of the museum is written information on the colonization and modern history of Samoa. While it was interesting a greater focus on pre-european Samoan culture and mythology as well as additional artifacts would have created interest. Overall we spent about an hour here and were pleased we stopped by.

Worth a visit

I loved this museum.

For a small museum, administered by the Ministry of Sport and Culture in a sports mad country like Samoa this museum bats above it's weight (just to be sporting).

The rooms relating to the struggle for independence were full of fascinating stories and the small personal Chinese room beautifully done.

I hope that, once the games are over, the curator/administrator finds the funds to visit NZ to explore Samoan artefacts in Te Papa and Turnbull Collections and perhaps too, funds to conserve and preserve images and repatriate some artefacts and develop more display spaces.

As an immediate- a more obvious street entrance sign would be great.

Overall a useful leaning experience. Thanks.

I understand where others come from saying its small and could be better but you will find the same in all the other Pacific Island museums I have visited, they do not have the funds available that museums in western countries have access to.

Its not for everyone but I enjoyed it ill make sure to make a nice donation on my next visit

Oh if they could do a little more

I really enjoyed the Museum, but its too small and really run down. Samoa has so much history to tell and what they did have was so interesting. We got a guide who walked around with us as we were the only people there. Lovely person.

A very sad museum
Sep 2018 • Couples
Most of the exhibits are from a New Zealand exhibition that is on loan (permanent). One room is about Australia. The Cultural Village is so well done . This is very sad.

Small struggling museum
Jul 2018 • Couples
This museum is a good introduction to Samoa and it's history. It's quite small (4 or 5 average sized rooms) but because of that there's a manageable amount of information to absorb. It's a little like museums used to be before the digital age took over so it's mainly photographs and interesting objects. It could definitely do with a refresh but obviously cost is an issue. Entry is by donation.

A brief History of samoa
Mar 2018 • Family
A brief glimpse in to the past of Colonial Samoa mostly through photographs .Entry is free but donations are welcome.Could do with improvements and more of Pre-European history of the Samoan people to the current date. This is a wasted opportunity to show the world evidence of a civilization more than 2000 years old who lived in a harsh environment with volcanic eruptions , who made use of pottery in their day to day life. And also a chance to show the social structure before the Europeans arrived and how commercial agriculture by the Germans and missionaries of the West and Chinese traders shaped the current people of Samoa
