Great place to stop in, and well worth the wait. The churros were fantastic and it is a very cool ambiance.

If you don’t visit Cafe Tortoni you’ll be missing out on a piece of Buenos Aires history. I had a portion of Churros with Hot Chocolate and saw a Theater Cafe from the 1800’s with figurines and picture frames of old movie stars and tango artists. Love it.

This Cafe is known around the world. It is a functioning antique. The architecture is suburb, as is the service and the coffee.

So much more popular than when I first visited 15 years ago. Book if possible or prepare to queue (once covid situation is over).
An iconic restaurant with great atmosphere, meals, drinks and entertainment.
A must-visit.

This is Buenos Aires oldest and most famous cafe. We had to wait 30 minutes in line but when we got inside, there were plenty of tables and we were waited on promptly. It appeared that they let the entire waiting line in at that time. Our local bed and breakfast said to order a submarino (glass of milk with a chocolate bar). Since we arrived mid-afternoon, it was a delicious selection for us to split. We were able to enjoy the historic interior of the cafe at a less inflated price at about $5 USD. When we left, there was no waiting line.

A beautiful.classic cafe in the heart of Buenos Aire. A variety of coffee, tea and chocolate drinks plus food options. The thing to have here is hot chocolate and churros but since it was almost 80 degrees I opted for a frozen cappuccino which was delicious. My friend had a double scoop of dulce de leche ice cream. I bought a pound of their coffee to bring back for a friend and he said it was wonderful. Ambiance is lovely, stained glass ceiling, wood, brass, marble - historical pictures on the wall - don't miss it1

Loved this place. We watched the tango & folk show. Loved it! The building/architecture/interior just amazing and what I expected to experience. Perfect place for a tango enthusiast or a lover of anything "porteño". When you enter, it feels as you are stepping back in time. The service was the only negative, a bit slow! Need to reserve a table with ample time.

Went for a beer and empanadas at noon - waited 45 minutes to get in. They didn’t have either so we left. Not worth the effort

If you view the queue to get in as part of the experience you can enjoy the cafe when you get in, but it may not be for everyone. The menu is not particularly stunning, although the price is good considering it is waiter service. But it is the all round feel that we liked, not like anywhere else we visited and very much Argentinian so it will stay with us. Exchange rates are particularly good right now but we discovered champagne on the menu at under £9 a bottle to really get into the spirit of the place and thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Sorry but I’m not sure when the Cafe opens, best to check the website for that. I would advise going at none peak times though and would suggest mid morning or mid afternoon. We only had to wait about 10 minutes in mid afternoon and it wasn’t a problem.
