About
Brenton-on-Sea is great for walking and sunbathing and is popular with paragliders. A big rock formation, castle Rock, is a favourite fishing spot for locals. Swimming is dangerous because of rip currents.

This is the best beach I have ever been to in my life.
It is clean, beautiful, lovely waters, beautiful views and not overcrowded. I would go to this beach every day if I could.
The sunset views are just spectacular and I like the fact that you have space on the beach to swim and take a nice walk without having 100s of people around you.
It was exceptionally tranquil.

Stayed here for 2 nights on our last South Africa trip and just loved this place. Extremely comfortable stay, well maintained sea facing room and kitchen equipped with all necessary utensils. This was more required coz we were travelling with less than 2 year old kid. Each suite has a different entry and that gave a feeling of home away from home. We even had dinner at their restaurant which is at a distance from rooms so we had to take our car.. but again it gives a beautiful view of sunset and food is delicious. Will like to stay here again given a choice.

Great walk along the beach, felt safe, same with the parking. Restaurant nearby looked basic as (almost) any small-dorpie (village) place on a South African beach, this seemed actually even better than most from a distance. Lifeguard on duty even. Good, safe place to come.

Brenton on Sea has the most breathtaking view of the ocean. It literally feels like you are "on" the sea. The establishment was beautiful and very clean. It was a very cold day, and we were welcomed with a warm smile at the reception and our room was already heated up for us as well. Although our stay was short, we most definitely enjoyed enjoyed every bit of our stay. Next time we would like to visit in summer to enjoy what Brenton on Sea has to offer in the summer time.

Parked at bottom of Brenton and walked up to the other end where there was a little cafe.
The beach is wide with white sands and very few people about.Waves are stunning, fast and angry but its lovely to walk up the beach with that to see and hear.

Make sure you stop at Margaret’s viewpoint on the way. Plenty of beach parking, albeit it’s a steep walk down to the beach. Prefer white sand beaches, but this one was clean and seemingly you can walk for miles. Walked so far then walked back. However the highlight whilst standing on the beach was to see 20+ dolphins close to the shoreline

My husband and I had lunch at Butterfly Blue Restaurant to celebrate my birthday over the past weekend.

We were pleasantly surprised by this beautiful town as we followed the winding road down to the parking area and beach. The beach is breathtaking and unspoiled with the beach stretching for miles all the way to Buffalo beach.

We spend hours on the deck of Blue restaurant, admiring the wonderful views. The beach begged us to take a stroll, but unfortunately the weather changed (you can have four seasons in one day around Knysna and surrounds) and it was too windy for a walk.
This is definitely a good excuse to visit Brenton on Sea on our next trip to Knysna!

If you drive back, just out of town, there is a viewpoint on the left marked "Gentle Giants". Do make time to stop here and admire the stunning views. If you stay long enough you might even see one of the "Gentle Giants" in the ocean!

Not to be missed!!

Visited many nearby beaches while in Knysna. This one was probably the best. Easy to park as it’s mostly residents. Great for swimming, tanning, kids and beach games. Clean toilets . Lovely rock pools to explore.

We stayed in Brenton on Sea for about ten days and wish we could have stayed longer. Every day we went for long walks down the beach and you can walk all the way to Buffels Bay which take about an hour to walk there and another hour to get back. Then you have to walk at a very fast pace to get that done in two hours, but you can also do that with a leisurely pace and have a picnic along the way if you wish or walk as far as you like.
It is just difficult for the elderly and for people with disabilities to get down to the beach because there are a lot of steps and a steep ramp. There are also lifesavers on duty which makes it safe to swim during holidays. There are a deli, a small shop for the basic things you need as well as a nice restaurant with a sea view.
