Review: My visit to Klipriviersberg Nature reserve.
Feb 2018 • Friends
This is a beautiful, lush, scenic nature reserve.
Gates open at 7am and close at 6pm.
Entry if FREE.
We saw wildebeest, Camera (or human) shy squirrels. A very brave meerkat. The reserve has more animals, but we did not encounter more on our hike. Speaking of hikes, one can choose either, 4.2km or 3km or 2km hike. We started on the 2km but somewhere along the route, we were enthused bu nature and the pleasant company that we ended up joing the 4km trek and eventually hiked 6.2kms; which we accomplished in a modest 2, 15hours.

There are braai(barbecue) facilities on the reserve, but one must reserve a braai stand in advance telephonically or by email. Good luck with your communication. Their response or lack of response in our case; caused us a 40 minute wait for the Manager on Duty to authorize us acquiring a braai stand, even though we called days ahead and emailed and got no response. Though kudos to the manager, she immediately consented to us braaing.
Alternatively one can take a picnic basket and just indulge at leisure. There are no restrictions on visitors taking in alcohol either.

If you are of the lazy visitor type, there is an adorable. quaint tea room. One can buy cool drinks, cakes, tea, coffee, cappuccinos, toasted sandwiches, etc at very reasonable prices. Do tell the waitress if you prefer your coffee strong, mine was a little weak for my liking. (My mistake, I should have alerted the waitress, I like my coffee strong like the African sun)

Overall it is an exquisite hiking site for a large family outing or with friends.
There is ample parking, but get there early. We arrived there at 8H30 am and found parking immediately.
There is manned security at the gate. You sign in and are allowed immediate entry. It is a secure, crime free hiking site.
Fellow hikers, (even though breathless) are friendly and will greet you, do responding in kind accordingly

Had a few fantastic rides!

We went on a trail twice and it was great. We rode all the way up the hill and got to see wildebeest and other game. The horses are well trained and gentle but where also in for a good run. Definitely want to go again!

Great exercise but disappointed on the scenery.

Organized to join a trail guide with a group of friends but when he didn't show up I made my self designated tour guide. Entrance looked deserted and we didn't need to pay for entering. (Has secure Parking) We saw a lot of trail runners and other hikers along the way. The hike itself is pleasant and you can choose your routes but be prepared for up hills (there were stages of the hike where I was experience mild heart attacks, but then again my level of fitness may have not lived up to my expectations). We found a map at the entrance and it was easy to follow so going on your own is good. Views are beautiful when looking left but when you look right - a huge sewage pipe is on display and rows of houses are there for you to admire, other than that, you get to see 'archeological sites' and ruins along the way, with a bit of wild life. A great place to increase your fitness levels but on the scenery level a bit disappointing.

Stunning birthday celebration
Jul 2015 • Family
What an awesome way to celebrate my daughters birthday. Sam is an amazing guide and was extremely patient and out us at ease. She is very knowledgeable about the park. Even with no horse riding experience we felt safe and comfortable the whole time. We loved the experience and will be back for sure!!
