I highly recommend this trail for views of Yap and just general beauty - I saw a lot of beautiful birds, A WWII site (US plane) gorgeous lizards and butterflies and flowers all the way. I would DEFINITELY go down the trail to the northern / west coast and not just do the trail from road to road. This was the most beautiful part and takes you to a small village and stone money bank! Highly recommend you do more than diving and get out and walk this trail - but take lots of water!

Most of the activities available on Yap revolve in and around the water. The Tamilyog Trail is one of the few land based options available. The trail is of moderate length and good for any level of hiker though be prepared for a few steep but short ascents and descents. The trail is mainly rock/stone path so an enjoyable bit of traditional culture. However, the rocks can get slippery in the rain so be aware and take care.

The trail is clearly marked on both ends (from main road to main road) and does not go through any village centers (making it more a secluded/quiet activity). However, if you are not sure you are still on the trail, make sure to carry a leaf in your hand as a sign of goodwill/respect to the locals and ask someone if you are still on the trail.

There are benches with covers dotted along the trail for rest. It is possible to overnight on these benches, if you are just wanting to get away from town for a night, though be prepared for an onslaught of mosquitoes. There are no restroom facilities on the trail.

It takes around an 1 -1 1/2 hours to hike the trail ne way.

Be sure to ring plenty of water because there are no places to get water on the trail and no stores next to the entrances/exits on either end.

Have a plan for after you finish the hike. One end of the trail is fairly near Colonia so you can easily continue your hike into town. If you are starting from this end however, when you come out the other end, your options will be to turn around and hike the trail back, or attempt to call a taxi. However, reception is poor at the trail exit and you may struggle to get a signal. In general it is better to arrange a ride in advance, or be prepared for a fairly intense hot-pavement walk back to town, up steep hills, and with very few stores along the way for food drink.

The trail is considered a public road so you do not need village permission to walk it.

This is a good not to long hiking trail. I began on the Eastern Side. You will find it about 1 mile from the bridge in Colonia, The sign is hidden by brush so look for a large concrete retaining wall saying Mogethin, Welcome to Yap, The trail has a couple steep rock step portions (see photos) which would be a bit of a challenge to a disabled or person with restricted motion, It begins in a canopied area then breaks out to the open and goes canopy again then open There's a couple rest bench stops, It's nice to walk this and imagine the history. Keep in mind the Island is 90% privately owned so stay on the trail!! Heading West is east to follow with just one fork, so just keep to the right. I was only able to complete 3/4 due to limited time so I don't know if there are forks coming from the other direction.

Hiked this trail for a team bonding experience on a rainy day. It was beautiful! We started at the bottom of the trail and went up. You'll see bamboo, amazing plants and greenery and war relics on the trail which is clearly marked. Wear shoes with good grip as it can be slippery in some spots, particularly if its raining. A fair amount of the trail has shaded areas. Its a must see if you can fit it in.

This approximately 4 mile hike takes you through rain forest to the top of the island and down to a WWII crash site of an American Hellcat plane.

We loved this trail and the others around Colonia. The views were wonderful and even the trail itself is amazing. The trail will give you access to history, birds, and viewpoints.

A really nice trail with excellent views of Yap, ancient stone path used as a road in the old days, well worth the time, great photographic opportunities along the way.

Have a lot of water, the east side is more sunny. There are two dogs on the east side, they don´t like the travellers but just talk to them calm and they let you go.
