Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stunning Church , a great sightseeing experience. Potentially Timaru's most beautiful building, well worth a look.

Absolutely beautiful Church. On a main road so easy to find. A must see when visiting Timaru. Love the interior of the church and the windows. It’s a lot bigger than it looks from the road

We are amazed to find this beautiful church in this country town! Designed by the same architect who designed the now ruined Christchurch Basilica, it has a similar design with two front domed towers, and a large cupula at the rear. The outside is spectacular, but the inside is stunning with very large and colourful stained glass windows, and other detailed ornamentation. For anyone who enjoys churches, this is a must see.

One of the grandest buildings in Timaru and all NZ.
A real tribute to the passion and enterprise of the early stone masons who built this magnificent building.
The Stain glass windows tell the stories of God coming to Earth in Human form of Jesus The Christ to give us a living demonstration of how to know God, live for Him and recieve Eternal life.
"To as many as recieve Him (Christ) He gave the Holy Spirit's Power to be the Son's and Daughters of God"
This is a good place in which to find Him, confess your sin and invite him in.

Built in late 1800s - early 1900s by local Catholics, this stunning basilica is well worth a visit. Gorgeous leadlight stained glass windows throughout lend a serene atmosphere. Has an excellent pipe organ which is often played at 9am Sunday service.

This church is spectacular. Take a few moments to sit and admire the soaring space, and absorb the atmosphere. Stained glass windows are abundant (over 100!) and it will take more than a moment to unpack their multi colored messages. This place has nurtured the spiritual journeys of South Canterbury Catholics for more than a century and it is a place of beauty and a place for quiet reflection.

We attended a family wedding at the Sacred Heart Basilica in Timaru. Until the invitation arrived I didn't not even know there was a basilica in New Zealand, let alone in little Timaru!! The basilica is over a hundred years old and was designed by F W Petre. The inside is simply amazing with its domes and beautiful stained glass windows. Well worth a visit even if you are not of a religious persuasion.

"Of particular beauty is the semi-circular colonnade of 13 graceful Corinthian columns representing St Paul and the Twelve Apostles. The floor of the sanctuary is decorated with mosaic tiles while the windows are adorned with attractive stained glass."
