Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Travelling the highways mean constant diversions like this restful place . Plenty of shady trees, lush lawns, a pond and vibrant plant collections. Bonus reminder of Scottish heritage... Robbie Burns’s statue keeps a steely eye on the goings on in his hood.

This garden was only 50 metres from our Coastal Ridge apartment and so was a must. For a relatively small garden it packed plenty of variety in. From open spaces, play park, formal garden, aviary, lake and woodland. Most importantly it was peaceful.

This was another beautiful Cantabrian Botanic Gardens that I could visit last March. The scene was smiling upon the autumn day when I visited and there were perennials out in luxuriant bloom. The landscaping of the verges and the whole aspect of the Gardens were delightful indeed.

A really nice place for walking and pet-walking as well. Suggest maybe after breakfast when sub is not too strong. Also can smell the nice flower scents and take some great photos.

Haven't been there for many years even though I live locally & wish I had. It was lovely with expansive lawns & tree areas & a large duck pond.

Located not too far away from the hospital and CBD, this is a great walking or picnic area. Very quiet in the lead up to the Covid 19 lock down but worth checking out next summer.

Timaru Botanic Gardens are a hidden gem - just left off the main road south from the town. You can drive or walk through the area.
We found a peaceful park to walk around with a good variety of flowers, plants and trees arranged by geographical and continental areas. In the valley are small lakes with obligatory water birds and an aviary.
Our visit was in spring and there were colourful daffodils, tulips and tree blossom.
Timaru's Scottish heritage is reflected by the statue of Rabbie Burns at the main entrance.

Some interesting collections of plants, some nice plant specimens, but having visited other Botanic Gardens around NZ and overseas, Timaru Botanic gardens feels like it’s not really valued and instead gets the type and level of care normally given to a grass sports ground or the minimum obligatory for a green-space.
Trees, shrubs, bushes......crowded, untrimmed, unpruned, some signs of pests and disease dotted around.
The flower bed plantings look dated with no originality or creative flair, I’ve seen road-island planting displays with more pizazz.
The size and basic structure/layout of the gardens, lakes, aviary, playground, conservatory, fernery and band rotunda etc have so much potential promise.

Very nice botanical garden, as is the norm in New Zealand! You can drive through, we didn't find a proper car park. Well maintained and beautiful grounds.

Tad boring Timaru Botanic Gardens
I thought that this was more of a domain than a botanical gardens.
It comprised more of large grass areas and big trees rather than flowers and botanicas.
There was a rose garden and fountain.
There was an enclosed little fernery garden.
Had a nice pond with ducks and a small basic playground.
