We have been traveling to Avila for the past twenty five years. This museum is an excellent example of Monastic Descalzed Carmelite life. St. Teresa of Avila lived here for 30 year of her life and initiated the reform of the order. Must See

Lots of artifacts from the life of St. Teresa. Inexpensive entry, good guides. The museum gives you a good sense how St. Teresa lived, and how it was "back then."

Our group of pilgrims first celebrated a beautiful mass in the monastery Chapel of the Transverberation. Then we took the tour of the monastery to visit the cell where St. Teresa had lived and many interesting relics and religious items are displayed. The small shop...More

A truly, truly peaceful, non-touristy, prayerful place. It will help to read up on this remarkable woman before following on Teresa's path, so what you see will have more significance. Worth the short walk from the center of town, featuring original objects that figured in...More

I went twice to this museum, once by myself and once with an English friend. I'm fluent in Spanish and very familiar with St Teresa and her writings. I'm sadden to say that the English tour is very inaccurate. The English card has many mistakes....More
