Taking place in the grounds of the beautiful hotel, the chef and assistant explained, ingredients and cooking process. Then it was one on one experience of how to complete the four options we chose. This is a great hands on approach. We then ate lunch that we had cooked, served in the hotel restaurant. Way beyond what we were expecting.

I 'forced' my husband to come with me to this class but we both had an amazing time and it was worth every penny. The venue is stunning and authentic; you feel like you're in another world. Sri and Iboe Soelastri were excellent teachers. It was a very hands on class and we cooked everything from scratch. You choose five dishes you'd like to make from an extensive menu, and if your favourite Indonesian dish is not listed they are happy to accommodate. We chose sate lilit, sambal goreng udang, lawar kacang panjang, opor ayam and sambal bajak. Wow! What a feast!! Every dish had its own distinctive amazing flavour. We couldn't finish it all and they were happy to package up the leftovers for us to take home. It was all a very special experience. Highly recommended without hesitation.

We decided to do this for my husbands birthday. It started off with a visit to the local market, which was a good experience, so many good foods. Once back we cooked up our chosen meals. Loved making the sambal. The whole thing was really interesting, complex flavors but actually super easy to put together and make. And then we got to eat all out food in our own private dining area, there was so much food!

This is not just another cooking class. It is truly an amazing cultural experience that one should do when in Bali. The women who tend the cooking class are so lovely and taught us how to do everything the traditional way. We get to eat amazing Indonesian food that we cooked ourselves!

My partner and I did the cooking class, what a amazing experience. We started at 07:30am with another couple we went to the local market, it was an experience quiet eye opening. Then we come back to the hotel had a coffee and breakfast and then started our class, we made the most delicious dishes. The staff were so helpful and accommodating. Once our cooking class was over we sat down and ate the food we made. I will recommend the class to everyone I see and the hotel itself was magnificent. We even got a gift bag with an apron, hat and oven kit plus the recipes and a certificate. What a wonderful way to spend a day!!

Hi Jenny, thank you for connecting with us.
Known for its authentic traditional Indonesian food in Bali and Java, Hotel Tugu Bali is a place where a cooking class is not just about cooking food, but also a unique experience that introduces to guests a tradition hundreds of years old. It opens the doors to a glimpse into the beautiful simplicity and the exotic richness of Indonesian dining and cooking culture.
Commencing in the morning, guests begin by choosing the dishes they most prefer from large collection of Javanese and Balinese recipes. A visit to a Balinese traditional market follows where all the freshest ingredients of the archipelago of islands, once known as the Spice Islands, can be found amidst the daily bustle of modern day market life. While gathering the ingredients for the cooking class guests will be involved in and experience first-hand the Balinese way of daily living, the jovial and sometimes noisy bargaining style of the vendors and buyers...
