We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having a chat with these lovely people and witnessing the skillful work of carving is such an experience for me which enables me to draw on the culture of carving around the Cook Islands and also my home island. The passion in the final pieces displayed depict the love of the people for there country and heritage

Really lovely pieces of jewellery which I would have loved to buy but it was beyond my budget. I bought some cheaper items displayed at the front of the shop.
They are at the Saturday market as well, where you can also pick up items you've had engraved.

I bought one of his carved pearl necklaces about 8 years ago, and stopped again to take a look. I ended up leaving with three gorgeous carved shell necklaces as gifts for friends. His work is one-of-a-kind. And the staff will help you understand the meaning of the symbols in the carvings.

We have visited Rarotinga 4 times and every time I buy amazing, one of a kind pieces from Tokerau Jim. His craftsmanship is the best on the island 🌴. I have each of my pieces engraved by Jim himself and I love them. I will keep buying from Tokerau Jim and I can’t recommend him highly enough.

I bought my wife a black pearl with porpoises carved around the middle. Unique, very good looking and not expensive. There are shell necklace pieces carved with local designs for sun, family etc. for $25 NZ. Take 1/3 off the price for the American dollar amount. If you give them a day, they can carve a message on the shell necklace piece to make it even more personal. Something to help you remember your stay in paradise!

We discovered Tokerau Jim online before we left the USA for Raro. My girlfriend was really looking forward to stopping in and seeing all of this work in person, and it didn't disappoint. We bought a carved pearl along with a few other carved shell items, great reminders of a fantastic trip to the Cook Islands.

The most incredible carver and jewelery designer that I am proud and happy to know!!!!! Tokerau has inspiration from his wonderful family and from God. His works are truely unique and very beautiful. Definitely a “Must take home” from Rarotonga. A “stop and shop” at their store in Arorangi is a must when you visit Raro!!!!

Although we didn’t end up purchasing anything as it was slightly above our budget, there were some beautiful pieces in there and the staff member there was friendly and had a chat to us most of the time while we were looking around. Worth a look, even if you decide not to purchase anything.

We went in looking for something for my mother's 80th birthday. So happy we did.
Jim's wife, Nikolina, runs the store which is now located across from the Crown Beach Resort. She explained the meanings of the intricate carvings, giving us paperwork to help us remember everything.
We found what we believed to be the perfect carved shell. Absolutely gorgeous and an amazing piece of artwork. Priced at $225 NZ we feel we got an absolute bargain. The shell was delivered to our Air B&B the next day after some personalised carving was done by Jim.
Later we got to meet Jim at the Punanga Nui market. He is as personable as he is talented. We feel honored to have met him and to own this beautiful piece of art.
There are many pieces starting at very low prices; so even if you don't want to spend a lot of money, this is a great souvenir of the island
Jim, I hope you are able to pass on your talent to others. Generations should enjoy what you can do!
