Our group was 79 yo Grandad, Dad and teen son.

They had a fantastic time on the 'Akura' boat with the crew who were helpful and knowledgable. They accommodated the different abilities of our group and made sure they enjoyed themselves.

They shared the boat with one other man so had a great chance for fishing.

Booking online was easy, Tina followed up the day before the booking.

After a bit of a slow start, the boys each got several fish and came away with some lovely fillets which the hotel cooked for us. They were out on the water for quite a long time but came home very pleased.

Tips - take your own snacks, hat, sunscreen and patience. They do provide sandwiches but our lot would have liked something a bit more. And there wasn't a lot of shade on the boat.

I landed a wahoo and we also landed 2x mahimahi. Half day trip and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We were even lucky enough to see a few whales spouting. Even if there isn't fish caught, getting out on the ocean is beautiful. The staff are friendly and helpful. Fish were killed humanely and instantly.

My partner and dad went out for a morning session with Akura and had a great time. They said the Akura boat was better than the last charter they went on and the crew were awesome. They even caught fish which was a first.

Akura fishing rocked it! We loved our half day charter in Ikurangi. Three of us caught our first yellowfin tuna. Amazing to see whales too! Great skipper and boat. Highly recommended!

Crew very pleasant but we didn’t get a single bite
traveling around for 4 hours in rough seas.
First time I have been fishing in 60 years and not touched a rod.
Apparently it is common knowledge that there’s very little fish around at the moment but of course you aren’t told this before you pay your money.

Great experience to go fishing overseas!
Great service and great team to go out with
Tip: game fishing is NOT like fishing for snapper. The boat drives around the whole time until you land a fish. Everyone on the boat takes turns to reel it in.

I had never been game fishing before and the skipper did his absolute best to get us around a school of tuna. They didnt bite but on the way back in we hooked a small bill spearfish and got it in.

The crew were super patient and clear with instructions to stop me from losing the fish. Everyone who wanted a turn fighting the fish got all the could take.

The crew gave us heaps of fillets afterwards which was really nice of them.

Fantastic morning off the island. The boat and equipment was very clean and well kept. Everything about booking was smooth and easy.

Note: If you get sea sick occasionally take pills before heading out. I took them and still felt a bit green!:)

From start to finish our trip with Akura was a holiday highlight. It was quick and easy booking in with Tina, we booked a morning trip Spearfishing Wahoo.
The Skipper Pupuke put us in on the first spot and we had Wahoo cruising in with 5 minutes! At times we had over 20 fish around us in the amazing blue water. We manged to get 5 fish all up, with the largest weighing in at 43kg.
Thanks to the Akura team, especially Pupuke, the freash Iki Mata was after the trip was awesome!!

First trip to Rarotonga and it was an extremely enjoyable experience. Hard to pick a highlight but looking back it was probably a day out with Akura Fishing Charters. Tina does a great job of organising the operation so a big thanks to her. Once on the boat ("Akura"-the biggest in their fleet) it soon became obvious that Kieran and the crew knew their stuff. The fishing tackle is top class and the boat well appointed. The fishing commenced almost before we cleared the harbour but became almost a secondary consideration because a whale surfaced so close to the boat that you could see the barnacles on it's back! This was the first of several whale sightings. The sea was like glass and we had a fabulous view of the "Rock" (as the locals call Rarotonga) as we cruised by. Catching a large tuna and a huge wahoo was "the icing on the cake". The crew filleted the fish and distributed it to all the customers. Tina instructed them to give us "enough for four people" (knowing we had partners back on shore). Typical of Rarotongan generosity it was sufficient to feed four-for TWO nights!!!
It was a day I shall remember forever. Thank you so much Akura Charters.

Wow! Thank you for the fabulous review! :) We are so happy you enjoyed your trip with us and we love hearing our customers feedback which is always passed onto the hard working crew as well to put a smile on their face :) It is a great bonus to see a whale whilst out fishing. We also sometimes encounter turtles and dolphins! Its good to hear you had enough fish to get a couple of dinners out of your experience :) We look forward to seeing you again next time you are holidaying in Rarotonga! :)

This operation is great, they will get you on the fish
they are one of the only operators here that fillet you as much of your catch as you want to take. we only took enough for us to eat. Other operations you have to negotiate with the operator to keep any of your catch.

The local boat captain made out trim awesome

Thanks for the great review :) We are glad you had a good day out fishing with us. We do try to be generous with our catch for customers, because without customers you have no business! :) We hope you enjoyed the fish for dinner and come out with again one day in the future :)
