    Great way to cool down
Great free, local watering hole. You can sit in the river above the waterfall and pool for the rope swing. Many would drop in from the rope swing or jump off the rocks into the pool. The water is a comfortable temperature. We walked from our hotel, but there is some parking along the street. You can walk down the bank from either side of the bridge.

Rope swing and swim area - free!
El Salto is an awesome spot to check out during an afternoon, just a few minutes away from La Fortuna. You can park your car right next to this swimming rope, swing area and the local charge anywhere from $4-$6 USD. Otherwise it’s free to go to for a swim and if you like, the rope swing is really fun. Definitely highlight when in the area!

    Fun, Free,Thrill!
We enjoyed this rope swing! I was initially scared to jump off it, but several other people were jumping and assured me it was safe. The water is definitely deep enough to jump in -- and it was very funny! The most challenging part was getting out. The current is pretty strong, and you need to be a good swimmer to swim against it to get to the side. Would definitely recommend! A local stays near the parking nearby to watch the cars - I think it cost 2000 colones.

    Swim Like A Local
This is the closest thing you can get to feeling like a local. This is where many locals swim and cool off. The rope swing is very fun and the water is so refreshing. You can explore the river on your own or stick around the main swim hole. It is very close to town, walkable maybe 20 mins from the Central Park area. I recommend coming here it's one of the few places that are free. My friends and I loved it

Jumping off of the waterfalls and swinging on the rope swing was a highlight of our trip to La Fortuna. Our two teenage boys loved swimming, swinging and diving in the area. Everyone at the river was having a great time, was super friendly and an overall very chill environment.

Fun swim with my kids. It’s free and very close to La Fortuna. There’s a rope that swings you into a refreshing dive in natural river pool.

This is a free river to visit. It was easy to find and super close to my hostel, SantaFe Hostel. We walked from the hostel and this took about 20 mins-there was sidewalks mostly in the sun on the way. There were vendors selling snacks and drinks at the entrance. There were a couple of locals and tourists there and there were two sections I found. There were locals and tourist here. My friend and teens tried the rope swing many times and loved it. My teens also jumped off the rock ledge in the middle of the river/falls.

We witnessed one tourist get injured on the rope swing. She swung out and held on while slipping down the rope and when her momentum brought her back to the side she hit and scrapped her leg before landing in the water. Not a serious injury but was a reminder to be safe and confident that you want to go on the rope swing prior.
We were barefoot in the water and would have preferred water shoes as walking in the water was rocky.

Local water hole with parking available off the road. Free parking but like everywhere someone is waving you in, but the help wasn’t required or needed so we didn’t tip, it seems like this is common in many areas but your stuff is not guaranteed safe and we didn’t ask or need the help. I do see some people do tip though so it’s at your discretion I would say.

The water felt wonderful after a long hot day. We left when I needed to get to a restroom and on the way out saw you could walk to one and pay to use it but we just went back to where we were staying.

Nice local swim hole with waterfalls. Definitely not the “easiest” hike down to it and not super easy spots to hang out so definitely would not recommend to someone with mobility issues, I have some but I also still have pretty good ability and stability so was fine but if your not comfortable crawling down or over rocks you might want to skip. We went on a Sunday and definitely a lot of locals and younger crowd but we were fine with it, we once weren’t 40 and aren’t against being around younger people hanging out drinking and smoking and stuff as long as they don’t bother us or make it feel unsafe and unwelcome and we will probably go again this week, hoping it won’t be as busy as it was on a Sunday.
