- jmalandraToronto, Canada73 contributionsFun experience for the entire familyOur family had a wonderful time at Ecotermales Fortuna! The location was kid friendly, clean change rooms, lockers for all of your belongings and really easy to drive to with free parking. We tried all of the different pools while relaxing with some drinks. The buffet dinner included was also very nice and was a great way to end our time there.Visited March 2023Written 24 March 2023
- Jennifer BEast Brunswick, New Jersey84 contributionsSmall slice of natural paradiseThis place is a little quiet slice of paradise! It’s boutique style feel hot springs with natural waters of different temperatures. One of the best and my favorite features is that all the pools are connected and you can see them from either top or bottom point of the springs. The drinks here are very reasonably priced and smoothies are made with real fruits not syrup. Buffet lunch was fresh and delicious. Would definitely recommend this hot springs!!!!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 March 2023
- shelleyt3505 contributionsSo relaxing!I visited Ecotermales Fortuna as part of an escorted tour group. I was not disappointed!! The different pools were fun to explore & experience the different temperatures. The steps & walkways were not slippery and they were easy to navigate. Our group also had the buffet dinner which was excellent. Overall a great experience!Visited March 2023Written 4 April 2023
- DC dude4 contributionsNot your run of the mill hot poolAmazing and unique. Don't be fooled by the "hot spring" at your hotel. This is the real deal with about a half dozen pools of varying temps and features. Young couples, older couples, teens and young kids all had fun. The included dinner afterwards was nothing special, but perfectly tasty.Visited April 2023Written 8 April 2023
- CaseyPortland, Maine20 contributionsWorth it! Reasonably priced compared to othersI definitely recommend spending a few hours here. We went right when they opened in the morning which was nice because we avoided some of the crowd. This was a spa-like experience without being too expensive. We skipped the food which I think was the right call.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 April 2023
- Padma AWilliamstown, New Jersey48 contributionsAn amazing visitOur best memories so far on this trip to Costa Rica. We got the package with the meal and to say it did not disappoint is an understatement. The Hot Springs were amazing and the staff was very accommodating. They had several pools to choose from and not only did I have a lovely day, but the lunch from the staff did not disappoint. I did not get a day pass into Tabacon, but this recommendation should not go overlooked. It was definitely one of those surprise visits that overachieved.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 April 2023
- Chuck HPortland, Oregon30 contributionsLuxurious escapeThis is a wonderful was to get out of the hustling center of La Fortuna. The six pools were nice to test out and discover your perfect temp to relax. The lockers were very nice. Our mid-week visit meant only 20 other people were there. Hot tubs and spas are not my thing but I had an enjoyable morning. There is everything you need for a luxurious escape.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 May 2023
- Maps255248San Diego, California4 contributionsRelax in the hot springs after a long day of hikingAfter a full day of hiking our tour ended at these hot springs. The facility was very clean and the front desk staff greeted us and gave a tour of the locker/changing area. There are multiple pools at Ecotermales and they varied in temperature. There was a bar and the waitstaff was available to take your drink order and find you in the hot springs with your beverage. I liked that some of the pools had rock shaped loungers in the water to relax on. A buffet dinner was also provided in our admission and there was lots of variety of foods and options if you have food intolerances. Chef (Greivan?) was very friendly and he was available to answer our questions. The food was delicious and there was lots of dessert options as well. This place definetly was where I wanted to end my day and it was a very relaxing experience.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 15 May 2023
- Sam HNew York City, New York197 contributionsVery clean cozy hot springs! This is ideal for one day Hot Spring experience with or without the included meal. The Spring Water Temperature is great. - Rachel G21 contributionsOne of our favorite parts of our vacation! This was one of the absolute best parts of our vacation in Costa Rica!! It was such a fun way to unwind and relax after so much activity in La Fortuna. The hot springs range in terms of like a hot jacuzzi to a more comfortable heat. There was a place to cool off too. This is something I would definitely do and especially at night because it's so warm during the day and the hot springs would be too much heat with the sun. There was enough space where it didn't feel like everyone was on top of one another, which was great.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 July 2023

We visited the thermal pools at night with our children and it was a lovely experience. Our travel agent had recommended going at night because it’s so pretty lit up in the dark which it was. I’d go one step further and say night time is the best time because the heat of the daytime sun is dissipating so getting into a hot pool is more enjoyable. We did this after the hanging bridges tour and it was a lovely way to end the day. I’d brought glow stick necklaces from home for our kids to play with and as a bonus it made them easy to spot in the dark.
The facilities were beautiful and clean, they provided a locker free of charge to store your belongings while enjoying the pools and there was plenty of clean space to shower and change. This is a private facility and they limit entry to a certain number of people at a time.
We stayed for buffet dinner which was one of the best buffets I’ve had the pleasure to visit. There was something for everyone - beef, chicken, fish, veggie options, fruit, salads, dessert. We left with full and satisfied.
Definitely a place worth visiting!

A trip to Costa Rica is not complete without a visit to La Fortuna, Arenal, and the hot springs. La Fortuna is a hopping tourist town with an abundance of shops and restaurants. Arenal stands above it all smoking majestically and pumping out prodigious amounts of hot water, which a variety of resorts divert into their facilities. We visited Ecotermales Fortuna in the evening for a tasty buffet dinner before exploring the variety of hot spring pools. We met some nice people during our soak and emerged totally relaxed.

Had a great trip, but employees continued to steal our taxis. It really took away from the experience in the end, and left us nervous and confused after a very relaxing day celebrating our honeymoon. The employee (female desk person wearing green) had the nerve to ask us if we needed a taxi after scurrying into the Uber we ordered. Very frustrating way to finish.

The pools were amazing! So warm and there were so many of them so it never felt busy. The dinner option was also quite good. I would recommend going here. It's probably overpriced, but so is most things in the area.

We loved our experience at Ecotermales Fortuna! We went around 5 pm for the evening time slot and it wasn’t too crowded at first. As the night went on, more people did arrive, but it never felt overly crowded.
There are several pools of various temperatures to soak in, some with cascading waterfalls, and one with a black sand bottom. We went in them all and it was really fun.
The drinks that you order from the bar are delicious and are delivered to you in the pools. Nearly everyone there was ordering drinks…the pina colada was really good!
After a couple of hours soaking in the pools and watching the sun go down, we changed into our clothes and headed to the restaurant where we had a delicious dinner.
We loved our time at Ecotermales and highly recommend it!

Even though it was rainy, this was very enjoyable. In fact some folks say it is better in a light rain as it cools you off while you are in the hot water pools. There are several pools, left to right up to down, hotter to cooler. Some are large some are small. Some have seats, some even have loungers. There is a bar, and folks come around for service as well. We also had the buffet dinner. It was nice and I do recommend earlier rather than later. Large tour groups tend to come in which can make it difficult. It was very relaxing.

We enjoyed these natural hot springs. All the pools are beautiful and clean, with a view of the rainforest around.
The cocktails are nice, not inexpensive but nice to have.
One thing would be the waiter taking drinks orders never strayed far from the bar, so you always had to go to the bar unless you were near it anyway!
Useful things:
- There are showers with shampoo, and hairdryers.
- There are lockers and towels provided free of charge. You can ask for a clean one if your towel gets wet.
- it’s nice to visit on a cool day so as to enjoy the warm water
- we booked lunch which was a buffet, and there were some vegetarian options but a bit limited, and some food was not labelled so we had to ask staff. There is also free tea and coffee with lunch.
A swimming costume dryer would be a helpful addition to the place, but would definitely recommend this spot as it’s one of the only natural hot springs and they also limit numbers unlike others nearby.

Great experience for the money. The thermal springs were amazingly relaxing. The grounds were clean and well kept. Dinner was simple but good. Compared to other local options (from free to very expensive) for the price this was the perfect choice!

I highly recommended going to Ecotermales! The hot springs here are great and there is a wide range of water temperatures to choose from. At Ecotermales, you will be surrounded by trees and lush greenery, which enhances the relaxing atmosphere of the hot springs.
Ecotermales is one of the more reasonably priced hot springs in the area and it wasn't crowded when we went.
For food options, you can choose from the buffet or the snack bar near the pools. The food at the snack bar was delicious and for a great price. The cocktails were good too. Everyone in my group of five enjoyed their meals and drinks.

I think it was $40 each. There is a deal that includes a meal but it was fairly basic food. We paid separately for food. That price is from 10am to4pm. There is another period from 4 to 10pm too for the same money.
Lots of places to stay. We stayed at Campo Verde which was very good. We reviewed it too.
They recommended reservations but we didn’t and had no problem. You can visit and view the springs area for free to see if you like it. We did that and went back the following day.

I want to visit Ecotermales in February for the daytime visit (10-4).
Do I have to arrive exactly at 10 am or can I choose to arrive later if I want?
How far in advance should I reserve?

We just went on our own schedule, you don’t need to be there exactly at 10. On the other hand, we were and almost had the place to ourselves.

Hi,
I’ thinking of going there in the evening, but i’m not sure about the transportation... we are renting a 4wd, but how dangerous would it be driving back to our hotel at night (we’re staying at the casa luna hotel)?

Shouldn’t be a problem. The main roads around there seemed easy to follow and not bumpy/pot holed. The road to Arenal volcano was very rocky so I would avoid that one in the dark. We also did the springs in the evening and enjoyed a meal in the restaurant too. Hope you have a lovely time.

It this hot springs appropriate for kids? We have a 4, 6, 8, and 10 year old who really want to experience hot springs but want to make sure kids are welcome and safe.
