Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Kolkata is the only city in India with a working, albeit declining, tram service.
Smaranika is a small café-museum set up few years ago at the Esplanade tram terminal. It consists of a restored tram parked in its own enclosure. The front car has a few tiny tables where one can sip tea or coffee (and perhaps munch on biscuits or chips – there is a very limited menu). The rear car – which can be entered only through the front car – has a display of old photographs, a few old uniforms, old tickets and tokens, etc. The exhibits seem rather neglected and do not seem to attract many visitors except for diehard fans.
The ticket costs Rs. 10/- and permits you to stay there for 45 minutes – perhaps they want to discourage visitors from lounging there for too long! Incidentally, the ticket itself is designed to look like a tram ticket (see photo) and it serves as a souvenir of your visit.
Unfortunately they do not permit photography inside the museum space. However, I clicked a couple of photos outside the fencing, which I am posting here.

Kolkata was the first city of India where tram service was introduced. Even now it is running a very limited service. But this Museum will bring all memories of yester year snacks. Worth visiting.

An Exhibition on tram in a tram. A gift from CTC to the tram lovers which presents a unique opportunity to flip through some tickets, passes, badges, caps, uniforms, tram parts, etc used in the yester years. The collection also includes different photographs of trams and its nostalgic association with the City of Joy.
It's open to public at Esplanade CTC Compound from 3.00 pm to 8.00 pm on all days except Thursdays with an Entry Fee of Rs. 5/- only.
Smaranika houses documents and paraphernalia which takes one back to those glory days of the Tram.
An appealing history of this momentous mode of transport is being presented in a first of its kind exhibition in the city. The small park which hosts the tram is adorned beautifully and graciously to get the feel of the ambience.
All these can be experienced along with a cup of tea or coffee with snacks in the swanky air-conditioned compartment of the tram which was originally built in 1938 and then refurbished in CTC Nonapukur Workshop in 2014.
Tea comes at Rs 5/- while Coffee is served @ Rs 10/- only. One can enjoy Snacks & Soft drinks at MRP as well. The best part is that neither they charge anything extra for AC nor levy taxes for purchasing food items.

Trams are well known in Kolkata. While this museum has some displays in relation to old tickets etc, it really could have a lot more information and better displays in it. The whole museum is a single tram and I would have like to have seen more trams.

The tram museum, a hidden gem of Kolkata, is a wonderful place to visit and sit with your loved one for an hour or so. It is operational from 13:00 to 20:00 hr. Entry fee is ₹ 10 and it will allow you to stay inside for an hour. It has a very tiny coffee shop inside. The first bogey is the café and the second one is the museum. Coffee is priced at ₹ 10 and you get a good quantity. It is Govt run, so, the prices are extremely cheap. You'll get chips and biscuits apart from tea and coffee. Bas, these are the menu. But it's so cheap that students will definitely seek this place for some quiet time with their special friends. It is air-conditioned too. There's also option to buy tram postcards at ₹ 5 each or a set of 12 at ₹ 50. A TV is there to show you history of trams in Kolkata and also in the world.

a lovely place to spend maybe half an hour. few people know about it and is difficult to trace out. have to pay Rs. 10 or 5, I have forgotten. there are two carts parked together like a normal calcutta tram. the first has a very basic cafetaria, tea, coffee, dry cakes packs, biscuits. they probably have a 30 minute time frame for 1 ticket, if i remember correctly. nice models and pictures. very little money spent, short time - quite a rewarding and novel experience.
