This historic pillar is located near Hindu Rao Hospital and is said to be more than 2000 years old! Quite a historical piece it is. Originally erected in Meerut it was re established here.

The Ashoka pillar was built by emperor Ashoka to mark the birth place of Gautam Buddha in Lumbini about 2300 years ago.the inscription on pillar is ancient and the Nepal government has provided tax free status to Lumbini

In case you are very interested in History than you may visit this place and go through the history of this Pillar. Recently in the news. Only few of the Pillars are only left in country and this is one of them. You can visit...More

There is nothing really too much to see or do around this pillar. Its situated in a bid park, a good place to have a day out picnic. You should visit when you are around.
