We hired Peruvian Andes Adventures to help us choose and organize a trek in the Cordillera Huayhuash. They were extremely helpful putting together an itinerary for our 12 day trek with the additional bonus of helping manage logistics in getting to and from Huaraz.
They are a top quality operation that provides quality equipment and hires great guides, cooks, etc for your trip. All involved are focused on providing a great experience and it shows.
Can't say enough good things about them. Go! The mountains in the Huaraz region are spectacular.

We planned our trip to the Cordillera Huashuash for a long time. Communication with Peruvian Andes Adventures was completely problem-free from the start, the answers always came very quickly and reliably and all our thousands of questions were answered patiently. Thank you so much for all your patience and support!
Once we got there, our expectations were even exceeded. We first spent three days in Huaraz to acclimatize and did two day hikes to Laguna Churup and Laguna 69. During these days we stayed in the Morales Guesthouse, where we really liked it! The rooms were very large and comfortable and the breakfast with fresh fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice was delicious. The small garden where you could enjoy the sun and relax was also great.
The actual trek, the circumnavigation of the Cordillera Huayhuash, was fantastic and we had the best team around us that you could imagine! As our guide, Marco was always motivating, helpful, friendly, patient and caring. Every morning he gave us a good start to the day with a cup of hot tea as soon as we woke up and he always looked after us very well. He also knew the special features of the landscape very well and was always happy to share his knowledge with us. Bernardo was the best cook you could imagine. He conjured up the most delicious and incredible meals! Who would expect to get freshly baked pizza and homemade Marajuca cheesecake for dessert on the last evening at an altitude of over 4000m! On the other days too, the food was always varied and freshly prepared. On long day trips, Bernardo cooked lunch while we were already on the move, then ran the route at twice the speed and was on the pass or another beautiful spot long before us, where we then ate together with a tablecloth and everything. Afterwards, he ran the rest of the way to the next camp at an incredible speed to prepare everything for dinner. And he always did this in a great mood and with a big smile. Our two donkey drivers, Magdalena and Saddang, were also super friendly and extremely helpful. They overtook us every day soon after we set off and when we arrived at the next camp, everything was already set up and prepared. Without the support of our great team, we would never have managed the circuit! Muchas Gracias!!
We were also very happy with the equipment. Our tent was a good size and we had plenty of room for our bags and backpacks. The sleeping mats were amazingly comfortable and well insulated.
All in all, I can only say that we were super happy and satisfied with everything and can 100% recommend Peruvian Andes Adventures at any time!
Muchas Gracias for everything!!!!!

We chose Peruvian Andes Adventures because we experienced excellent communication and customer service as we were first investigating our options. Eight friends formed our own trekking group and hiked the Cordillera Huayhuash in late June/early July of 2023 and had an absolutely fantastic experience! Our guides were knowledgeable, caring, and joyful, and the whole support team was strong. A few of us suffered from sicknesses (including two who got COVID at the tail end), but we were well cared for, and they had an emergency horse that supported us. Can't recommend this company and this trek highly enough.

Our situation was unusual, but that should make this review of interest to you. We are full-time hiking guides based in the U.S. We gathered several strong, experienced American hiking friends. Our group of seven then employed Peruvian Andes Adventures for an entire month. We did a week's worth of acclimation dayhikes with them. We trekked with them in the Cordillera Huayhuash, then the Cordillera Blanca. And, in between all those days in the Andes, our group lived at the Peruvian Andes Adventures (PAA) guest house in Huaraz, where we ate breakfast every morning and dinner nearly every evening. Anne, who is the PAA coordinator based in New Zealand, communicated with us promptly and knowledgeably over the course of many months prior to our time in Peru. Hisao, who leads PAA in Huaraz, cheerfully, efficiently supervised everything we did and was always available for advice. The PAA team running the guest house—Yovana, Maritza, Gina, and Lucy—kept it pleasingly clean and comfortable throughout our stay. With unwavering ebullience they served us delicious, healthy, filling meals in their upstairs dining room, which affords a captivating mountain panorama. Our trekking guide, Jonathan Morales, was marvelous. He accompanied us on several acclimation dayhikes as well as throughout both treks. He was always calm, always smiling, always easy and fun to be around, and managed everything perfectly. His team—Tonio, Lolo, Oro, as well as all the arrieros (donkey wranglers)—worked ceaselessly to keep all of us comfortable and our expedition moving forward. They are extraordinary men, possessing the strength and endurance of Olympic athletes and the unwavering equanimity of Buddhist monks. These happy, kind, gentle, humble Peruvians showed us what it means to live simply and beautifully. By the end of our last trek, our gratitude to Jonathan, Tonio, Lolo, Oro and the others brought us to tears. So if you're still reading this you know by now that we enthusiastically urge you to go trekking in the Andes, not only because the mountains are astonishing, but because you have the opportunity to experience those mountains as easily, safely and blissfully as possible: with the unwavering support of, and in the joyful company of, this astonishing group of people who call themselves "Peruvian Andes Adventures."

Peruvian Andes Adventures provides absolutely superb service. Their vast experience leading hikes, treks and climbs is very apparent. They have thought of everything. Six of us did a 12-day trek in the Cordillera Huayhuash with them. Our camps each evening were beautiful and comfortable. We ate in a spacious dining tent with a large table and stools. The food was fantastic, which is somewhat miraculous when we stopped to consider where we were and what it took to get the food there. Sanitation was carefully orchestrated at each meal, with a hand wash station and hand sanitizer at each meal. The whole crew as friendly, courteous, and always helpful. Our lead guide spoke good English, was a delight to be with, loves his work, and took good care of us. When one of us (we started with a group of 7) got altitude sickness, they got him out of there and back to Huaraz in one day, where he recovered nicely. I highly recommend them.

We hiked for seven days in the Huascarán National Park, and the Peruvian Andes Adventures team supported us in the best possible way. They were friendly, always attentive if someone needed help, professional, and always on time. The tents were comfortable, the food was very good and well presented, and in seven days we did not have a single problem, not even a small one.

A friend recommended me Peruvian Andes Adventure in Huaraz.
I booked 5 different one day hike. Llaca lake, Urus, Churup lake, lake 69, Wilcacocha lake. All five were the suggestion of the owner of the company. It was a very beautiful selection of trails. Each of them were different from the others.
The guide is very experienced and knowledgeable about the nature and outdoor.
They can provide you equipment if needed and a very good lunch bag is included for each day hike.
Hisao, the owner, is a great person.
Have awesome hikes everyone

I organized a seven-week group trip with PAA in July and August, 2024. Everything from the planning phase with Anne to the execution with Hisao and his team were absolutely top notch through the following phases:
1. Acclimate in Huaraz
2. Huayhuash Trek
3. Alpamayo Trek
4. Climb Urus and Ishinca
I give PAA my absolute top rating. This is great company and I am already thinking of my next trip.

i would definitely recommend this trek and pervian andes adventures for the santa Cruz ulta trek.
Jhon was an exceptional guide , knowledgeable , modest, helpful and patient.
The cook and the donkey/ horse guides were very very nice people .
Food was excellent . Equipment provided ( tents and sleeping mats) was in good conditions)
The camping sites in the valleys for all days (except one) were majestic.
The scenery on the whole trek is exceptional with beautiful green valleys, majestic peaks , lot of glaciers, cows, horses , donkeys, plenty of different flowers even at high altitude .

This review is based on doing a trek and climb with PAA in the Cordillera Blanca.
Pre-Trip Information & Logistics: 5/5
The information that PAA provided in advance of the trip was very thorough, outlining what to expect on the trip, the equipment that PAA provides and what participants need to bring, as well as helpful travel information. PAA staff were very responsive to email communications.
Coordination in Huaraz was seamless as well. A PAA staff person was waiting for us at the bus station and brought us to the guest house. The pre-trip briefing—reviewing equipment and expectations—was well-organized.
Guiding: 3.5-4/5
Our trek guide was personable, good-humored, patient, and professional. He gave us a good idea of what to expect each day and provided information on the flora and fauna along the way.
Our climbing guide was more introverted (possibly due to the language barrier), but he was professional and technically competent. It seemed that he genuinely wanted people to succeed and even offered to carry belongings for people who were having difficulty.
Unfortunately, on the return trip from the summit, one of the porters led the rope team and he seemed to have little knowledge of rope management. I was behind him and he was constantly pulling me, which was not only annoying, but potentially dangerous on steep sections. If porters are going to lead rope teams, they need to have the proper training, or at a minimum, recognize their limitations and seek feedback from the others on the rope in real-time.
Other Trip Staff: 5/5
All of the donkey drivers and porters were very professional (aside from incident described above) and good-natured. They were constantly smiling and joking around with each other, which made for a nice atmosphere (and was impressive given their difficult jobs).
As an aside, you might want to do a little comparison shopping to find out how many donkeys are typical. We had 6 for 2 people for one week and encountered another couple who had only 5 for a 2-week trip. I can’t say if we had too many, or they had too few, but I wondered about it. (If you have 6 donkeys, this necessitates an additional donkey driver). Not a big deal, just curious.
Hygiene/Sanitary Practices:??
The bottom line is we got diarrhea (accompanied by fever). This occurred at the middle and end of our one-week trek, so it was caused by something on the trek itself (not something that occured beforehand), but of course, I’m not able to pinpoint the exact cause (could have been my own fault, or caused by PAA staff who were handling our food and water). I also talked to another PAA trekking group and apparently most of them also got diarrhea.
To their credit, PAA staff provided us with boiled water as well as hand sanitizer. I didn’t observe any unsanitary practices. You may want to inquire about how they wash dishes (e.g., do they use boiled water, bleach, etc.), as I didn’t directly observe this. Also, in addition to hand sanitizer, I would advise bringing soap on your trip. Though PAA provides warm washing water in the morning and afternoon, you need to provide your own soap.
Food: 2-2.5/5
The food was definitely the most disappointing aspect of the trip for me. Just prior to doing the trek with PAA, I did a trek in another area of Peru with a different company and the food was outstanding with a lot of variety. So, the timing was unfortunate. The other company provided professional, restaurant-quality food, while PAA was more of home-cooking – basic meat and potatoes for dinner. I enjoyed the lunches, which included salads, pasta with chicken and vegetables, rice cakes, and even ceviche. But, I dreaded the dinners – a mound of rice and meat with heavy sauces (plus soup for a starter). Though the meat varied, it was, more or less, the same thing every night with no vegetables. Even my big meat-loving partner got tired of it and noted that some of meat was quite gristly. It would have been nice to mix it up with something completely different, like a pasta dish, or even just a more balanced meat and veggie dish. (Honestly, it got to the point where even some freeze-dried food would have been more palatable!) I was so thrilled on a last night when we stayed near a mountain hut (refugio), where I could purchase a tasty meal.
Based on my experience, if you’re not a HUGE meat fan or someone who can inhale whatever is put in front them, I would strongly advise making some special meal requests (might even be better to request a vegetarian meal, as I heard they were well-accommodated on another trek). I just fear that if you are a small group and you make no special requests, you get the worst cook of the bunch who has a limited repertoire. I’m not a super-picky eater so I saw no need to make any requests (especially after the wonderful experience elsewhere in Peru), but I would not leave it to chance again! One of the main reasons I hired a guide for trekking was the food, so this was a real bummer.
Other Notes:
The equipment provided (most notably, a tent) was in good condition.
It was convenient to stay at Morales Guesthouse, but if you’re staying in Huaraz beyond your trek/climb, you might want to look elsewhere. There’s nothing wrong with the place, it was just the most expensive place I stayed in Peru and it didn’t offer anything extra for the price. In fact, in the “superior” rooms, hot water and wi-fi were lacking (not the case in the “standard” rooms, which are on a different street). The property’s grounds are nice, particularly the deck with nice views of the surrounding mountains. The place is a bit out of the way, but you can still walk to the central business district. Breakfast consists of bread, a small fresh fruit cup, and one egg. You can get yogurt+ cereal for an additional fee, but you have to ask, as they don’t advertise it.

Hi, would you recommend the Alpamayo Base Camp Short Trek over the Santa Cruz - Ulta Trek? I want to do a trek that is challenging but doable. I have a good fitness level and would like to have the best bang for the buck!
Thanks!
