For a small museum in a very untouristy town, the JK McCarthy museum was a pleasant surprise. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly and the artifacts fascinating.

The J.K. McCarthy Museum in Gorka displays some nice artifacts and explains the history of PNG - and in pariticular - the history of the Goroka area. A special focus is the time of WWII. If you stay in Goroka - visit that Museum.

This is an excellent museum established pre-independence and has great artifacts and old pictures. I marvel at the old picture of Eroll Flynn showing him on a ship- trading lugger-he worked in PNG before movies. A must see if in Goroka. Not open Sundays.
