After doing a cruise on Ha Long Bay and Trang An Grottoes, I can say 100% you do not need to do both. Ha Long Bay is a bit overdone and you can tell by the multiple cruise ships everywhere (even in the nearby bays...More
This was an enjoyable tour. You have an option of 3 tours. The shortest is 2 hours going through 4 caves. There is a 2 1/2 hour tour with more caves, then the 3 hour tour that goes through 9 caves.

We selected the grottoes in Trang An, Ninh Binh as a single part of me during the entire trip to Vietnam (My good friend recommended the area to us). It was truly well worth visiting the place. We had taken a relaxing boat journey through...More
❤️❤️❤️amazing, did route 1, lots of caves and temples, great rower, shame she couldn't speak English, would have been 5* if she could answer our questions.

We did the shortest of the 3 available routes. Later approx 2 hrs. There were 4 caves on the way. Absolutely stunning views. The weather was beautiful too. There was slight drizzle which only added to the charm. Much better than the Tam Coc boat...More
I was surprised by the beauty of the Nature. Fantastic boat ride into the cave, then you see the beautiful live picture of the Earth, Water, Mountain Cliffs and humble people who make my trip unforgettable. My friends who are in their 70s get pain...More
After reading mixed reviews about the boat tour owing to people seeming to have issues with the person rowing the boat stopping half way/demanding a tip, we were slightly cautious on arrival. We opted for tour number 2 to take in some of the Skull...More

You need at least 2 -3 days to enjoy Ninh Binh. If you like peace & quiet I can recommend staying at the Mua Caves Eco-lodge. It's located about 2 km from the outskirts of Ninh Binh town. The deluxe rooms are best/quietest & the staff are A1. Access to Mua Caves and Dragon Mountain is free with your stay. Breakfast provided and an all day restaurant on site. Bicycles and motor cycles are available for hire too.
We found cycling a great way to get around since the roads are relatively flat. We managed to visit Bich Dong Pagoda, Tam Coc, Hoa Lu & Trang An Grottoes by bike.
Can recommend the Trang An boat trip, a great experience and just a couple of kms easy bike ride from Mua Caves.
Enjoy your holiday!!
