Beautifully situated in a most picturesque position, this Wat is the one that features quite understandably on the majority of pictures and postcards of the Historical Park in Sukhothai, overlooking a lake bedecked with lotus blooms. An absolute must-see if visiting Sukhothai.

Main temple and very beautiful. Several great statues of the Buddha, great alignments of columns and a nice park make it a wonderful place to visit. The place is big and I was lucky enough not to be overrun by tourists!

The main central Wat. The area surrounding the Wat within the walls of the Wat are very tranquil and full of beautiful areas for picture taking or sketching.

This is the highlight of the national park with huge, and impressive, Buddha images which although they have been damaged by the Burmese army, still look fantastic. Large area to walk around and take photographs. Very peaceful.

Stunning temple ruin with a multitude of buddhas, chedis and columns over a significant area. By far the best of the Sukhothai ruins.

I often visit Wat Mahathat and I have never seen and have never heard of daily meditation classes at this ancient ruin. Just visit, sit and enjoy the peaceful surrounds.
