if you have the evening free in Dunhuang , i would recommend going to the Shazhou night market. its lively , many stalls with unusual souvenirs or gifts. there is also lots of food stalls as well at both ends of the night market.

This market rocks. Lots to eat and lots to buy. Many mainland tourists and they were enjoying the warm evening. Don't expect a local market or a "native" experience. Just enjoy the bustle and loud commerce.
