Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Coming out of review retirement bevause of this place. Before going I had seen some good reviews and 4 stars on Google. Most areas are blocked off due to construction and bird flu. Many animals were absent from the rest of the zoo. The animals I did see were left in enclosures with nothing to entertain them. Pacing around, broken, defeated, tortured souls.
For some reason I thought a country like japan would have a great standard for zoos. However it is one of the most miserable things I have ever seen. It should be shut down with a standard like this.

Do not visit this zoo. I've been fortunate to travel and visit many zoos around the world and this is one of the saddest and largest abusers of animal welfare I've seen.

Many handmade signs made out of cardboard and markers.

The polar bear exhibit looks like it's original from early 1900s. All concrete, no dirt, nothing. The Bear was extremely thin for its age range and was showing clear signs of stress. Pacing and pushing off a wall to pace the same route all over again.

The monkeys, many from Africa or south america, were in small cages left outside and shivering. They don't keep the interior door open for them to enter to keep warm, etc. Many of them are by themselves when they are social pact animals. Terrible

A mountain goat had a massive enclosure and it's the only goat. An old ram. Another social pact animal all by itself. It's enclosure was three times the size of the bears.

Both Jaguars had small enclosures.

The hippos left outside, no indoor enclosure I could see.

This zoo should be permanently shut down and animals relocated where they can be given the proper care deserving of them.

Do not go here

If you go to the zoo in Osaka, it's easy to go to Tennoji Zoo, and it's close to the station. There are many kinds of animals, and I think it's good to go to see animals with friends, lovers and family. On the way back, it's in Tennoji, so it's possible to go to various shops.

You can easily visit the whole zoo within an hour, which is good especially being outdoor in hot weather. The zoom was well maintained and have clear signs for directions.

Extremely small enclosures, some animals can barely move in. A lot of animals just pacing back and forth stressed and bored out of their minds. Made me so sad

Small zoo . A few animals . The only catch for me is to see the white polar. The place is easy to walk . Wheelchair friendly .

A basic zoo . I will not recommend to come here unless the children wish to come for a animal experience.

Cafe - are the mango crepe . Cold and soft . Not worth trying

If you are European or American, DO NOT GO. I left feeling quite depressed. Awful treatment of animals. Makes our zoos at home look like Eden. If you are Japanese, do not go but try to lobby for some change here.

Walked in and back out. Saw five animals, this zoo is horrendous. Animal cruelty at its finest!
The lion couldn’t even stand, all the animals looked sad.
Polar bear pacing around in despair, it mad us feel sad.
Do not give this place any money. Can’t believe such humans would treat them like this. Birds too crowded, the whole place smelt like poo. Felt sorry for the wolfs, no clean water and waiting for food.
WORST ZOO EVER, disappointed with myself for paying the fee in and not doing research and reading reviews.

Tennoji zoo is a small zoo but it has some attractions that are not common. Among them are polar bears, penguins and nocturnal animals such as bats and kiwi birds. It is worth a visit.

The zoo have many exhibits that are no longer active, elephants, koala etc..
Unfortunately we found out only after entering.

Of those active, the animals seemed well taken care of though mostly caged in relatively small enclosure.

I would give it a miss
